I appologize if this in the archives somewhere, but I couldn’t find it through searching. Anyway, the question is, are Gunze Sangyo Aqueous paints and Tamiya acrylics compatible? I’m building the Tamiya 1/48 Birdcage Corsair and plan on doing the tri-colored scheme. Up to this point I have been working with Tamiya acrylics with acceptable results, but I would prefer to use pre-mixed colors for the intermediate and sea blue colors. I could mix the Tamiya paints if possible and I have found a Tamiya mix formula for intermediate blue, but none for the sea blue. I found one page on the net that states that GS is not compatible with Tamiya, but in other reviews on hyperscale there is an example of GS for the blues and Tamiya for the white bottom. Thus I have a tie of opinions and was hoping someone could break the tie before I go test paint. Any comments or help appreciated. Thanks.
I would be reluctant to have to overpaint Gunze with Tamiya or vice versa. Separated paint areas should be safe. In my experience, Gunze does not mix with other acrylics, does not tolerate being overpainted with other brands, and does not like clear coats other than Gunze.
