Hello all!
I just picked up Trumpeter’s M1117 Guardian ASV at my local hobby shop, and had a color question. I only paint vehicles with Tamiya paints, and there is no suggestion for the main desert tan color of this (and other) US Army vehicles in the desert. Looking up the color, I came up with FS 33531. In Tamiya, this is listed as both XF-57 Buff, and XF-59 Desert Yellow. By eyeballing it, I also like XF-60 Dark yellow for this vehicle as well.
Anyone who has painted one of these, or a Bradley or Abrams in desert colors want to offer me a bit of advice?

Testor’s Model Master product line has a color called “US Army / Marines Gulf Armor Sand”. I like it and have gotten good results.
Neither of the Tamiya colors is really anywhere close to 33531. Both are too dark and Buff lacks the yellowish hue seen in 33531. You could probably mix it by eyeball using Buff, Desert Yellow, and White.
The MM US Army / Marine Gulf War Sand is not correct for current CARC Sand (Middlestone, FS 33531). It is a commercial color that was used during ODS ('90-'91) in Saudi Arabia to quickly repaint camo vehicles as they came into theater.
The closest match to the modern sand color is Model Master Sand, FS 33531. Tamiya does not make an out of the bottle color for FS33531.
As Gino has indicated, there’s no direct match in Tamiya’s bottled paints. What you are looking for lies somewhere beteeen XF-55 Deck Tan and XF-57 Buff - you may need to mix a little
