Can you mix Squadron white putty and acrylic paint before application on the model OR painted after application? Should the paint or the putty be mixed with thinner?

Mixing Squadron Putty with acrylic paint? NO! Apply the putty before you plan on painting any surfaces.
I concur with Gerald. Apply the putty first then paint. Do not attempt to mix acrylic paint with the putty.
Squadron putty works better, IMO, when thinned. When I use it, I usually thin with liquid cement or lacquer thinner to a soupy consistency and apply with a paintbrush.
Do not squeeze it from the tube directly onto your model - that’s a mess waiting to happen. I usually use an artists spatula but you could get by with a suitably trimmed ice cream stick or similar.

When suitably thinned, it allows you to apply the putty thinly enough that the lacquer thinner evaporates quickly enough for it not to affect the styrene. I’m talking about near paper thin layers of putty
You can mask off either side of a seam with masking tape and apply the putty with a paintbrush. When the gap between the tape strips is filled flush, you have a layer of putty over the seam which is literally paper-thin.
Applying the putty straight out of the tube in thick glob applications too could damage the model. That is why it is important to do several thin applications instead of one heavy one.
It squadron putty its too thick look at getting yourself a tube of 3M Acryl Blue or consider using Mr Surfacer 1200.

As a general rule of thumb, don’t apply solvent based putty in a layer thicker than about one third the thickness of the styrene you’re applying it to. If you need more than that, apply a thin layer, and allow to dry before applying more.
I have a small gap of between 1-2/32s of space between the top of a tank turret and a panel of zimmerit. It is about 1/4 inch long. I have already painted the model and am very pleased with the outcome. I have this gap and want to fill it with putty and paint over it with a matching camo color. That.s why I was asking about putting the paint in the putty. Is there a way to fill the gap and keep from sanding it? I will paint over it after it is in place.
