P-61 ???

I’m working on Monograms 1/48 P-61 and would like to know about the rear bulkhead in the cockpit. More specifically the door(?) the kit part has a rough texture, What I want to know is, is this actually a door or would it be an openning(without a door)??? Not a whole lot of good pics out there and could find nothing for the rear area of the pit.

It’s a hatch that allows access to the ammo & feed system for the turret…

I believe the cover was some sort of fabric. For a real good look at what is in there, take a look at the

Mid-Atlantic Air Museum’s on going P-61 restoration project.

There are hundreds of photos of the project. Far better than ANY walk-around book

Fermis - I found a factory picture of the gunners seat in a book I have called “Northup’s Night Hunter”. Behind the seat, there is an opening with no cover at all. It is very possible that it had a fabric cover as Ray mentions. Sorry the scan didn’t turn out so well…

Here is a pic of the bulkhead taken from the MAAM website that Ray mentioned.

Hope that helps. [Y]

Also want to mention that the book I have has a brief history of every P-61 built. If you’re building a specific bird, shoot me the serial number of the subject you’re modeling and I’ll post the history for you.

Thanks for the pics and site. There’s a lot of crap back there, I think I’ll leave it closed!!!

Not planning any particular bird on this one, just know it’ll probably be green, with a spare “pyn up”.

I love an OD P-61.

Hey Fermis,

One thing to note, the cockpit floor step is molded wrong. the step should be on the aft part of the entry hatch not in the middle of it. Looking forward to some pics.
