I just started the interior of Monogram’s P-61 Black Widow. Anyone know where some good interior shots of the plane (especially the instrument panel/ cockpit) can be found for reference. The detail is good but the instructions are very vague on proper painting.
Heres one site for you it might be black and white but still a great shot. The site is http://gra.midco.net/mlgould/ They have a huge amount of cockpit photos. Still looking for other photos to help you.
Here are some photos of the P-61 at the USAFM. Although it is nowhere near complete, they might help in conjunction with the b & w photo from the interiors website above. Hope they help.
What you have to do is, hide behind the B-29 right at closing time, wait three hours until everyone is gone, then you have the run of the place!!! I’m just kidding, don’t try this !! They used to allow people, with prior permission through the director to take photos of aircraft before the museum opened. You would have to tell them which aircraft you were interested in (no more than 2) and they would have it opened up for you and you would be accompanied by a museum volunteer. I don’t think they still allow this though. I was able to get in the P-61, P-39, P-38 and the B-25.
You are so lucky Eagle. I was at Writ-Pat last year. I had the intention of doing what you did (asking permission…NOT waiting till after closing! LOL!) but when I checked their web site I think they had mentioned that they no longer do that. Naturally we have the terrorists to thank for that. Hopefully the museum will eventually allow people to take interior pictures some day again.
I don’t think the terrorist threat has a lot to do with it. I just think they realized the planes were taking a beating by letting pretty much anyone who asked, into them. I can understand their point, you just don’t run down to the “Schwalbe” store and pick up something somebody breaks off by mistake.
