P-61 Black Widow Finally Finished - NEW pics page 2

Well gang, this is a day I never thought I’d see - the beast is finally fnished. After months of “anything that can go wrong, will”, she’s finally together.

Here are the basics:

Revell 1/48

LoneStar Models resin cockpit and Radar operators section modified with Eduard PE details

Eduard’s exterior PE details

True Details resin wheels

QuickBoost resin top turret guns

AM Cowl with corrected open flaps

twin Aires resin P&W R2800 Double Wasp power plants

Aeromaster’s Decals

Paint is PollyScale Tarnished Black with a mix of PS Satin and PS Flat finishes

Anyway, on to the pics

As soon as I figure out how to take decent pics of the interior, I’ll post them up (though, maybe I should figure out how to take decent pictures of the exterior, too [D)])

All comments and criticisms welcome.

Enjoy,

Fred

I think it looks great, Fred! Those are the best P-61 markings, too! Way to stick with it and see her through to the end!

Excellent build Fred! You must be very proud of that accomplishment, I bet now you have that feeling of “hey, if I can do that, I can do ANYTHING!!!”

Well done, glad to see this one finished. [bow]

Hoorah for you, Gigatron! That’s looking mighty fine- and I can’t wait to see more pics, particularly of the Lone Star interiors- cheers!

Freakin awsome Fred!

That is outstanding. The finish is flawless from here! Rock on dude!

Love it. I’m in that GB too but I haven’t started my build yet, same kit. I only hope mine comes out half as good as your’s (whenever I get the time to start it).

SWEET! Digging that nose-art, too…

Very nice! An excellent build of a difficult kit.

You handled all the problems nicely. It was worth the trouble. Very well done!

Gigatron, beautiful build. I love that plane. You did a real super job on it. Can you tell me about the Lone Star cockpit? Good fit? Good detail?

One thing that stuck out to me… there’s some black overspray on the Radar bulkhead. Touch that up and you’re golden!

That definitely looks the business! The red color gives is great contrast!

Thats really great; even if it were a Tamigawa kit, it’s a fantastic build: and considering that we all seem to know of the pit of fire from which it came, [bow][bow][bow].

Fred,

Excellent build! Looks great! Very nice work.

As far as pictures go, you have the lighting pretty good but the mirror distracts to my eye. A piece of white foamcore under it would be better. For closeup interior detail, you’ll probably need a macro lens on your camera - or a macro setting. Some of the smaller digital cameras have this setting.

Looking forward to seeing more! The P-61 has always been one of my favs!

Thanks guys, the compliments really mean a lot to me [:D]. There was hardly a day when I didn’t want to smash it with a hammer.

Tonight I’m going to use an older camera that I have that sometimes seems to take better pictures than my super-duper camera. Right now I use a Konica-Minolta Dimage A200. It’s a really decent all-around camera, but there are so many settings it can take forever to figure it out. I’ll try my older Kodak point and shoot, which is almost idiot proof…almost [;)]

Frank, I think everyone new to modelling should have to build this POS as a rite of passage [(-D].

Chuck, after following your helldiver thread this whole time, I’d be embarrased to show you any of the stuff I’ve done. But, I’m going to try a different camera tonight to see if I get different results and show off the interior.

Eric, I knew you’d like the nose art, especially considering how much flak you catch in the Dio section for likin’ the girls. Don’t worry, I like’em too [;)] [(-D]

RadMax, overall, the LSM pit is great. A lot of detail and the casting is pretty sharp. But, it’s not without it’s problems. There is some warpage in the resin, so it doesn’t sit flush against the sidewalls of the kit. It seems to be built up on the original kit walls, so ther is some incorrect detail, but it’s still several times better than the stock stuff. And it seems to be a bit long. If you line up the step-down in the canopy framing in the radar section, the walls extend into the glass section, so those need to be trimmed. As for the Radar bulkhead, there’s no overspray because I purposefully painted them seperately. But, it’s probably the black plastic that I didn’t fully paint over, which I can just touch up tonight.

P_D, funny thing is, the camera does have a macro feature and I do use it, but it always seems to come out too sharp, if that makes any sense.

thanks again, guys. Stay tuned for (hopefully) better pictures tonight.

WOW Fred. That’s is just a pleasure to look at. I have heard it is a difficult kit that can really test your intestinal fortitude and frustration levels… wait… that was mostly from you.[:-^]. You came out on top. [tup][tup][tup]

[(-D] [(-D] [(-D] thanks Marc.

Now that this thing is done, I think I’ll tackle my Tammy stang with AM wheel bays that a certain someone else was complaining about [;)] [:-^]

This is one of the better done, better detailed 61’s I’ve seen. Very nice work…

Andy

Beautiful work on a very difficult subject. The added details are really terrific.

Fred,

That is absolutley first class work on the Widow. I did one last year and I felt your pain once again! You have triumphed and if you are a contest entering man, I predict a 1st Place for this build! I think you should send her in to FSM, it belongs in the Reader’s Gallery! Well done!

Brian [C):-)]

Thanks again, guys [:D]

Brian, you may change your mind after I manage to get better detail pics [;)] [(-D]

Honestly, I can’t wait to start working on something else, just to try and help forget about this…thing.
