For my second post (it’s sunday…), this small one. Tamiya kit, tremendous fitting except the windshield. Flaps and control surfaces cutted an repositionned. Nothing special for the cockpit, usual improvements (wires, belts, and so).
This plane flew for the 55th FS (20th FG), 8th AF, and was seen in Romorantin (Belgium) during february 1945, just after the big german strike on allied air bases (Bodenplatte operation). Stars and codes from Aeromater sheet. Black and white stripes on wings, nose and tail markings are airbrushed.
No yellow tips on the prop. The zinc chromat color on tanks is speculative feature. Last word, the pic i started from shows a very weathered plane, with heavily chipped OD color wings, and pretty dark stains also coming from the stub exhausts.
Another beauty Kullervo. Is this the new boxing of the Tamiya P-51? The one with the staff car? I built one recently and it was a shear delight. My canopy didnt give me any fits at all, but then the rest of the plane didnt look half as good as this. The weathering is just fantastic. Great stuff.
