P-51D Mustang - Short Fuse Sallee colors

Guys , looking at wartime color pictures of the early P-51D flew by Richard Turner “Short Fuse Sallee” the name lettering appears to be black ( there is virtually no contrast color with the “bomb desing” near it.

However Aeromaster sheet in 1/48 issued this name in red.

Is red the correct color or shall it be black? Are there any other decal alternatives in the market?

How about victory markings - are they red/white or black white?

Thank you!!!

The only reference I have available shows the name lettering in black with a yellow surround. But this may have been one of his later P-51D’s. The victory markings were definitely black/white.
