It’s really sweet.
It’s a pretty nice mustang, but outside of the embroidered seats, i don’t really see any kind of tribute to the P-51. The orange and yellow icon there looks nice, but doesn’t look familiar. Wonder if that might be something else tying it to the warbird[%-)]
I think the “emblem” is supposed to be a checkerboard like on “Old Crow” and there is an OD stripe on the NMF finish.
Not much else.
Gary
huh! Guess i never considered the paint job! Interesting…
Hey Roger. Here’s a quote from the write up on the car.
“As an interesting side note, the yellow and red accent colors on the vehicle come from those used by the 357th Fighters Group, Eighth Air Force ETO (European Theater Operations) who were unofficially known as “The Yoxford Boys” after a village near their base. Its victory totals in air-to-air combat are the most of any P-51 group in the Eighth Air Force and third among all groups fighting in Europe. The 357th flew 313 combat missions between February 11, 1944 and April 25, 1945 and is officially credited by the US Air Force with having destroyed 595.5 German airplanes in the air and 106.5 on the ground. Pilots in this group included Captain Clarence E. “Bud” Anderson who flew a P-51 named “Old Crow.” One of Roush’s personal P-51 fighters is painted as a replica of this airplane.”
It boils down to marketing. Someone will buy it because it references a P-51 so those who can’t afford a real one will take this as a second choice.
Pretty neat stuff. A couple interesting notes about Jack Roush, aka “The Cat in the Hat”
He almost bought the farm a few years back… crashed his plane in a lake. Luckily, a couple guys fishing dove in and got him out
He’s a real nice guy… I got my picture taken with him at an autograph session once.
To follow the earlier thread about it being a tribute, the racing stripe is OD like on the front of the airplane, the anti-glare panel. Really, when you think about it, it should have been called a P-51D, since those were usually silver.
That’s interesting… pretty cool.
My son has a 68 Mustang kit waiting to be built that he’s planning to paint OD green, and use the “Ding Hao” markings. Can’t wait to see that!
Leave it to Jack Roush. He may not be the ultimate Mustang Fan, but he’s probably the richest.
Semper Fi,
Chris
Hey, I think I will stick a couple of dustbins (without lids) onto the back of my Golf , paint them black & airbrush F4 onto the sides - Instant F4 tribute.
What a load of crap.
