Hi all. I am in the SSGB and I got a P-51A for that build. I have been looking and looking and looking and…LOOKING for the Camo I want to paint this bird. But I only came up with 4 photos of it.
Sooooooo if there is anyone out there that would have more pics of what I am looking for PLEASE… let me know.
Great scheme you have there… If I am not mistaken, you can find those pix in either the P-51 Detail & Scale, or one of the Mustang In Action books/walk arounds…
Good hunting and I am looking forward to the build…
Hey Bud, I’ve checkeed all my sources & haven’t found much on this but, looks like you have found enough here to mask it & paint it yourself[:-,][(-D] Not like you have other “pressing” matters to attend to like the rest of us[:-^]
I have built this scheme and I did it before any decal sets were available. I found pictures of both sides of the fuselage and the belly, enlarged to the size I needed and cut individual pieces of black decals to make the pattern and placed over a white background. Flightline decals produced a set, #8001 but I think they are out of business. Race plane decals came out with a set using the old decals but the only place I see the business listed is on Ebay. You may be able to contact them and see if they still make them. I still think the way I did it, although tedious, produces a better looking product in the end. Plus I believe the Race plane decals are printed on a solid decal sheet so you would have to cut them out anyways. I have the line drawings I used and could send you a copy if you want to go the cutting them out yourself route.
It’s like a 8.5x11 sticker. You can pick it up at any craft store. You just cut shapes out, peel the back off, and place it on the model. Then you can paint and peel the mask off. Play with it a few times first to get the hang of it. I think I got 10 or 12 sheets with mine. Looks like your project will only need 1[:)]
