P-51 Tank behind engine.

Ive started work on my 32nd scale mustang and behind the engine theres a tank. Im wondering what colour it is. Ive seem some photos where its interior green (same as the rest of the engine bay) and some Show its bright yellow with bare metal bands around it.

Does anyone know for sure what colour they were?

That’s the oil tank… It was usually painted with Yellow Zinc Chromate…

Thanks hans. Interesting that the frame work and engine mounts are bare metal. I pained mine puke green. (Tamiya yellow green, using it instead of interior green as i like it better) I hope thats right for an early model D. I may have to pull some bits apart. Oh well.

It depends upon what the parts are made of as to whether they get Zinc Chromate primer or not. The main reason for using ZC primer is to prevent electrolytic corrosion where dissimilar metals make contact with each other…

So, Everything that comes in contact with the skin in other words?

Thanks for the help, you learn something new every day [:D]
