There was a feasibility test but was never put into full production, though I don’t know why.

The lower photos are Mustangs being transported across the Atlantic I believe.

I think I recall reading somewhere that despite faring well in the test ops, the P-51 was deemed unsuitable for a carrier-based aircraft because it was liquid cooled.
