Anyone have a photo of the antennae wire on a P-51D? It looks like it goes from the tail to the back of the seat though a small hole in the bubbletop but I want to confirm that before I start drilling holes.
Check this page out- scroll down a bit.
I see scratchbuilding in your future… [;)]
Thanks Jon. It is inthe favorites list now.
Same here- cool site, huh?
actually it runs into the canopy to the seat and from the seat to the radio behind the seat I just wish they showed pics of the radio bay under the canopy to illustrate what I described.
Bear in mind that the 8th AF didn’t use the antenna wire thru the canopy. If you are doing an 8th bird, leave it off and save the hassle, LOL!
Now THAT"S a good thing to know… thanks.
Maybe this diagram will help…

and here’s one not thru the canopy, even though both a D models…

Here is a shot of my 1/48 Monogram in Korean War markings with the antenna wire through the canopy. I used nylon thread and had it looped through the headrest attachment down to a set of small weights to keep it tight but wasn’ too successful.

Thanks for all the help guys. Heres how it turned out. I used dark colored invisible sewing thread.
Marc,
Your antenna wire looks good. Adds a very nice touch to a great build.
Looking good Marc, again, that’s a great reason to build a model.
