P-47M:Finished!

Hey guys, this is Tamiya’s 1/48th P-47M. I got it in the Secret Santa 3 Group Build from Leaadas. I used Superscale decals to model Eugene Andermatt’s aircraft. Here’s a picture of the man himself:

I also used a Lion Roar seatbelt and a Quickboost gunsight, as well as lots and lots of wire for the 36 ignition wires. Here’s a bit of a recap followed by the finished product. As always, questions, comments, or criticism is appreciated!

Hope you guys enjoy it as much as I did building it. Up next is the Accurate Miniatures B-25C/D painted as “Dirty Dora”

Wow RadMax!

Outstanding model! Let’s see, where do I start - I especially like the rudder pedals, instrument panel and aerial. The alignment of your guns and landing gear look great as well.

This is a winner, for sure.

Exceptional work on this one! What paints did you use? I like your choice of colors. Thanks for the pics.

Beautiful Jug! Can’t wait to tear into mine, D bubble top.

Tony

Excellent Build [Y]. The attention to detail & painting of the Camo is outstanding. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

Looks amazing. I really like the paint scheme.[t$t]

Well done, well done!

I agree with the group:

Nice paint scheme. I’ve never seen that pattern before. Great choice and executed well.

Thanks everyone! This aircraft was from the 56th FG, Hub Zemke’s outfit. They had some very interesting schemes, for sure!

The metallic paints are Alclad (I learned A LOT about that stuff with this build, btw), and most of the other colors are Model Master Enamel, with some Tamiya Acrylic thrown in. I used Promodeler’s dark wash for the light colors and a raw sienna wash for the dark color.

This kit has the most accurate kit cockpit I’ve ever seen. I was looking through my Detail&Scale book and almost everything that was in the pictures was in the plastic.

Very nice work Radmax! [Y]

Yes the Tamiya P-47 kits are outstanding.

I have built Gabbie’s plane and the Razor back model ‘Little Chief’ and they both fit great.

I have one P-47D still in the stash and I may make it into another of the 56th FG aircraft such as Robert Johnson’s.

Very nice build. Thats one wacky paint scheme…

nice build, Max. Great job on the camo!

There’s few things more beautiful than a big jug. Where do I start? Everything looks great!

Best build yet Max!! Love it. Hope to see it in Columbus!!

Jerry

Now that’s a cool camo scheme. Great job and a very clean build. Can you describe how you made the coil on the antenna?

Don

Guys thanks so much, you’re all too kind!

Jerry, it’ll definitely be in the show. It won’t be a winner, I’m putting those hopes on my Corsair!

Don, here’s how I made the coil: I took a wire and cut all the insulation off. Inside were tiny strands of copper. I take this and wrap it around a #80 drill bit a few times (until it’s long enough) and squish the wire together as I go. Then I cut the excess off, paint it aluminum, and when it dries I slide it off the bit and on to the antenna wire I’ve already glued to one part of the plane. I use superglue to hold it in place. It’s a little out of scale, but I feel like it adds a lot to the model. What’s a little artistic license now and then? If you’d like I can post a small photo tutorial…

Max that is awesome. I will have to get a Tamiya 'M someday.

I built this from the Hasegawa 'D a few years ago. Minor conversion

That’s an electric 'bolt.[bgr] I think I’ll bookmark this as a reference for the 1/144 Bolt I’ve got on the bench. Definately one of the odder schemes I’ve seen on a bolt.

A really great job on one of my favs. The scheme is well done and eye catching. I assume that’s the Tamiya kit??

Andy

Max,

Thanks; the description will suffice. I figured it was something like what you described, but the wire just seemed so fine. It doesn’t appear to be out of scale, and you are correct that little things like that add alot.
