P-47D-30 MAJ Glen Eagleston, 345th FG

Just finished up the 1/48 Tamiya “Bubbletop” with Eagleston’s markings from Cutting Edge. Also,I included a Resin Seat harness from Cutting Edge, and wire undercarraige hydraulic lines and engine ingnition harness. Waldron P-47 placards complete the cockpit. Blunt-tipped hypodermic needles were used for the four .50 cal MGs. This was my first NMF aircraft, which I’ve wanted to do for awhile, and the time was right. Didn’t turn out as I’d expected, but better than anticipated. Alclad II was used (Aluminum/Dark Aluminum), and was sealed with three light coats of Future for a semi-gloss finish. No weathering or panel lines on this one, as the panel lines speak for themselves, and I didn’t want to ruin the finish with weathering at the end of the project! The decal sheet provides white roundrels to go behind the Balkenkreuze kill markings, but my reference photo shows only a white-bordered cross for each. The roundrels did not represent it as accurately, I felt, so they were omitted. Anyways, it was a great learning experience, and I’ll be doing some more NMF in the future as it was a lot less painfull than anticipated. Enjoy…!

The P-47 looks great! [bow] Really nice pics too.
That is one kit that I still want to pick up for myself sometime soon.
Did you use any photo etch in the cockpit at all? With a lot of the newer Tamiya kits one doesn’t need to add much to the inner detail at all to have a real nice looking cockpit.

Great looking build of a great kit. I just started my third Tamiya Bubbletop and plan to do it in the same markings. Super nice job, keep em coming.

Looks great… I always loved that A/C. I have done Maj Eaglestons P47 and P 51 in 1/72 scale… The new squadron book Aces 3 has a nice piece on him…

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the kind words…! No PE used, just a handfull of the Waldron placards. The stock cockpit is so nice, PE or resin would fail it.

Nicely done T-Bolt. Do you plan on building others? Thanks for sharing the finished product with us.

great looking jug!![8D][8D][8D]

Hey, thanks Nick! Keysworth, I have the Hasegawa Razorback on the pile, definitely gonna build her up as well!

Great looking build and cool choice of paint / decal scheme. I also have refrained from weathering some of my kits because I think they look fine without it.
