P-47 razorback paint job

Hello,
I just bought tamiya’s p-47 razorbackand i was wondering how to paint it. In the directions it says that there an overall olive drab. But it sounds so boring. Any other ways to piatin it?
Thanks,
seakinght

Yeah, olive drab with nuetral grey on the bottom. Sorry, but I was trying to talk you into the bubble top![8D]

you could do one of the dday 47’s. some different schemes there. if i find the site again will get it to you.

There were several Razorbacks in NMF with some very clorful markings. Also, some of Zemke’s Wolf Pack Razorbacks had British type disruptive camo schemes. How about some of the Checkertail Clan, that were OD over NG, but had Yellow & Black checkertail Tails. Lots of Jugs to pick from.

The main scheme was OD over neutral grey, which is pretty boring, but there were some interesting personal markings. You could also do a NMF aircraft. Go to this site and explore some of the galleries:

Probably have a look in 56th FG (zemke’s wolfpack).
They even have some good colour photos of “little chief”
You could even have a look at some decal makers sites (aeromaster, eagle strike, superscale) and see what decals they offer and see what takes your fancy.

hope this helps

Do you think it would look good if i shoot a metal/aluminum finish and then put invasion stripes on top of that? Do you thin that would look cool?
thanks

That would look very cool.

NMF with invasion stripes, that’s my project right now. A Hasegawa 1/48th razorback, using Aeromaster decal set #II I believe. The particular jug I’m doing is from the 404th, a “war bond” ship that flew 200 missions without an abort. No invasion stripes on the wings, just the bottom of the fuselage. This aircraft is a little unique in that the anti-glare panel is OD, and the windscreen frame is flat black. I’m using BMF over gloss black primer and it is taking forever but the wings are done and the foil is awesome, well worth the work.

If you think this looks good, do it.

This is an aircraft from the 56th FG, 93rd FS.

I personally like it (and it wouldn’t be to hard to do. Just mask and paint the stripes, and use the kit decals for numbers (just rearrange them) and there is no personal nose art so you don’t need decals for that. I think the cowl is red (the colour for 56th FG). And the rudder is probably red too.
And who’d know if you didn’t get the unit and other numbers correct. As long as you don’t plan to enter it in a comp just put any number on there (someone won’t be happy with me for saying that.)

Hope this helps

The 56th Fighter Group had lots of interesting experimental paint schemes. Aftermarket decals are available with painting instrux. I’m sure if you did a decal search at Squadron, Aeromaster and meteor you’d come up with plenty.

Then there’s the lovely markings of my Dad’s unit from the Pacific:
