Greg
I’m interested if the dates work. I have several P-47’s to build. It would have to end at least after the first of the year, and not start for a month or so.
John,
lets start the GB
I will put you on the list and lets move to GB section of the forum
Greg
I would assume this is being asked because of the recent Dogfight episode on the History Channel?
With all due respect, this is sorta reactionary. There are already hundreds of similar GB’s cluttering up the forum that died a kick death because they were based on a spur of the moment emotion. Some people will jump on the bandwagon, and then within a short amount of time the GB will be dead because the emotion will have subsided and everyone will be distracted by the next shiny thing that caught their attention.
More power to ya if you have a solid reason for a GB. Otherwise, I personally think it’s just encouraging the quantity vs. quality issue I see in the GB forum.
Just my [2c] [:D]
Edit: You just confirmed my fear! One person has an interest and you immediately make it a go? Aaaauuughh!
I ran one about a year or so ago. I’d be game for another.
Joshua
You have a good point arki30.
In this case the Dogfight was a trigger however I thought about finding more people who are interested in P-47 GB for some time already. I am building one now and two more waiting. If there is any person interested in building a jug than I would like to initiate a GB. If there is mobody interested than I will build them myself anyway.
Greg
Yeah, my point wasn’t to rain on your parade. If you can get some interest, go for it.
In my time here as a member, I’ve watched the GB section slowly degenerate into a chaotic mess. There’s some GB gems in there, but for every 1 good GB there are 10 that should never have been started.
Other forums, ARC for example, are more controlled. Every GB requires permission from the mods in order to eliminate too much counterproductive competition, and there’s a max time limit of 6 months to complete the build. Those GB’s seem to have more interest, better participation and more completed builds to share with everyone, which is the whole point.
Here, well, anyone with a computer and a thought can start one, for better or worse. Instead of a well-planned event, it’s more instant gratification. We as participants don’t help either. How many of us have mortgaged ourselves up to our eyeballs in GB’s because of all the choices, only to finish maybe one or two? Couldn’t it be better?
I certainly think so.
Anyway, off the [soapbox] and sorry for the thread hijack [:D] Good luck on the GB. The P-47 is a cool plane.
a constructive comment is always welcome
Greg
I’d be up for building a Jug, but I don’t think we necessarrily need to start a GB for it.
Instead of imposed build/time limits, why can’t we just start a thread here where everybody posts their Jugs as they see fit? Essentially the same as a GB, just none of that time limit stuff that says you have start and finish by a certain time.
Just my 2 cents…

I think it is a good idea - basicaly we need a place to share and find information about this aircraft. The thread here or a GB without time restriction is the same thing.
I initiated a GB but if people will not participate than … well, it will fade out. I am going to build my jugs anyway.
Anyone can join and have fun.
Greg
Someone over on the Armor Forum had a similar idea (might have been about Shermans), and I think it’s a good one and would work here as well. It would be a nice venue to post progress pics of my Tamiya Razorback and get the opinions of other Jug modelers and aficionados.
