P-39 Airacobra Group Build

Hypotheticly speaking (my spelling is not the best as you can see):

If I was to be working on say a 1/48 mpm p 63, and someone (without my knowledge or consent )was to switch the parts from the aforementioned box, with the parts in the Eduard P 39Q box, which is officialy part of the group build contained within this thread. And since the P 63 is not officialy part of this group build, and I was unknowingly actually working on the P 39Q. Would this be a violation of the “Rules” as stated on page one?

Well, I suppose if say maybe someone hid the box top, so you couldn’t actually identify what the actual plane was, I mean, you couldn’t really be blamed, could you?

Of course, I’m not the GB Chairman, so his rules may be stricter…

Of course, you could always buy a practice kit to work on in the interim…

The way I see it - yes, it would be breaking the rules.

As far as I’m concerned, you just do what you want, because if you want to, noone’s going to know, are they, and it will stop these annoying “hypothetical” posts.[:(!]

Are they realy that annoying? I was just trying to pass the time till the group build starts. I was not trying to %#@$ anyone off here. So I apologize if I have.

Dave, are you REALLY apologing? Or just hypothetically speaking?

Not annoying at all dave. Like you said helps the time pass.

Thad

I agree… helps pass the time. Beside, It give me the opportunity to demonstrate the total control and power a GB moderator has over the group by saying things like…

NO CHEATING

LOL just kidding[;)]… about the ultimate power part… not the no cheating part[:D]

Also, to shoot a hole in your hypothetical situation Dave, the P-63 IS officially allowed… see rule 2.

I am happy to see that you are excited about the build in general. I have taken the plastic out of the box once already to touch the pieces, feel the smooth surfaces, the heady aroma of the plastic[:P]…err…sorry… To analyze the steps of the build in a logical progression to most efficiently expedite a timely completion of the miniaturized version of a full scale aerodynamic airframe.[:-^]

I got my decals in and opened the bag to smell the ink.[:-^]

Thad

You guys make me jelous. I have not even orderd my kit.

Ollie, not to steer you in one direction or another, but chcekc out the P-39 and P-400 prices at Eduard:

8062 P-39 Airacobra PROFIPACK 1/48 $39.95 $29.95 >> Buy now! <<
8063 P-39Q Airacobra 1/48 $29.95 $19.95 >> Buy now! <<
8065 P-39Q Airacobra PROFIPACK 1/48 $39.95 $29.95 >> Buy now! <<
8061 P-400 Airacobra 1/48 $29.95 $19.95 >> Buy now! <<

You can get a profipack for $30!

Ahhh Rule 2…ok on to plan…lets see here…C…yeah I think I have tried plan A and B already. Hummm …or is it D? Or I could just finish my wildcat first.

Well, while we’re waiting… I’m going to build Eduard’s P-400, and I’m starting to gather some paint/supplies/references/etc. The instructions call for interior green on all interior pieces. I’ve got plenty of the standard USAAF interior green, but my understanding (possibly false) was that Bell used their own shade of green for their aircraft. Can anyone confirm/deny this, and provide the nomenclature for the correct shade if possible?

Yes Jeff I believe that is true… at least that’s the info I got as well. FS 34092 supposed to be a pretty close match. I used that on my P-39 and P-59 and it looks good.

I was aware of the profipacks, but thank you for that.

Great Models Webstore has the p-39 dual combo for $39.95. 2 complete profipak kits, with parts for many different versions, with all the bells and whistles for 20 bucks each.

Again not trying to push anyone in a particular direction but that is a great deal.

Put me down for a Hasegawa P-400 back dated into a P-39F with Air-a-cutie markings from Pyn-up decals

I might even do a Hasegawa P-39Q/N in Tiger stripes as the bomber bouncing fighters in the US to keep bomber crews state side alert while they ferried their aircraft in prep for going to Europe.

Now that’s what I’m talkin’ about… 1st post and jumps right into the fray.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to the group build.[#welcome]

Man, I’m really looking forward to this GB! [8D]

Glad to hear it… me too[:D]

Since there seemed to be some others that were chomping at the bit[:P]… What plans does everyone have? OOB? Lots of AM stuff? Any decisions on marking?

Since I am doing an Eduard kit it already has a ton of PE. I am adding a Quickboost resin engine too. I had seen a set of marking for an NMF ‘Cobra. I may go with that if I can track them down. Can’t recall ever seeing a bare metal P-39.

I’m glad you brought that up Marc. I’m going to take a look at the cockpit details tonight… if it’s lacking like is in Hasegawa’s P-38F then I’m going to have to order some PE. [:-^]
