P-38M revellogram...an oldie, but still a fun build

Haven’t wanted to bore ya’ll with this build up, so I thought I would wait till the ending bits…suffice to say, the kit holds up well, but is a royal pain to get straightened out.

Kit decals aren’t worth saving, so it’s off to the store tomorrow to find some Superscales:

Looks good man, but she naked cant wait to what decals you get.

Aww c’mon Greg!! a ship guy converting to aircraft & doesn’t want to bore us with this build?!?!?!?!

looks good from what I can see anyway[8D]

I have three of these in my stash. Looking at sprews and things it looks like a nice kit. But when I visited " The plane kits you hate the most" three people listed this particular plane. They said that just about any two surfaces on this kit have to meet, they don’t. They say nothing fits on this and don’t even try to do the nightfighter because you will only compound your sorrow. Well I hope they get a look at this! You have done and excellent job on this old kit.[tup][tup]

Thanks for sharing

I built this one when I was about 14 and had a lot of fun! Now I have the old monogram on 1/48. If you do pace yourself and have patience, I builds just as good!

I might be partial to it because: 1) I’ts my favorite plane 2) I have built six of them![;)]

That’s right Zip. Heed their warnings… Tell ya what, send them to me & I’ll dispose of them properly[:P]

Well, it certainly takes some doing…kind of like building a “hitkit” limited run…but the results are coming out well enough. Lots of warp correcting, and wishing that the bloody thing had wheel wells!

Greg, I have this kit in my stash and am contemplating buying a detail set for it but, all I find is for the Academy or Hasegawa kit. Any suggestions? Is the 'pit good oob?

Which version are you going to do? The regular cockpit is o.k., with some generic additions (seatbelts, etc), but I had to scratch in the radar operator’s station, and you would have to do the same for the pathfinder. The aftermarket seats I have seen don’t match up with the reference photos I have…they look too good to be P-38 seats!

I’m loking to do a regular one. Now, I am in a tiff as to whether to do the F or J version since the kit has the resin booms to do the F.

You did a great job on it- love to see more pics.

I’ve got the same kit in the stash. I’m not sure now whether I’m inspired to give it a try, based on the great results you got, or to move it to the bottom of the pile, based on the problems I’ve heard. [;)]

MM has a bunch of work in progress pics…I would say build it, but have your puttysandrepeat hat on…the next one I build is going to be the afterwar droopsnoot version that was used to carry vip’s…think plush carpet and a glass of champagne!

Saw the pics- great work! OK… I gotta give it a shot. [;)]

In due time I will build this, Just looking for ideas on it rightnow as I have other things on the bench

save your pennies for something else i have the decals you need for free (left over from a abortion a year ago!) shoot me a email if your interested! hope this helps , dave

That looks real good! I’m assuming it has raised panel lines? Say, that would look good as early Navy VMAQ-2 bird, Playboy bunny decals and all.[swg]

Eddie

Nice job on an old kit! I look forward to see it with decals on.

I ended up using a mixture of aftermarket and the kit decals, basically soaked in Micro-sol ! Pics up tomorrow, when I get some good lighting!
