P-38 RAAF Cowling Conversion [Help]

Hi all,

So I went ahead and purchased the P-38 (2015) Academy set, but I later found out I already owned one with the same colour/decal scheme. As such, and because I’m an aussie, I decided to purchase the Red Roo RAAF scheme.

Unfortunately, as it turns out, the Academy set (left) has a different engine nacelle intake than the RAAF P-38s had. I’d like to backdate it to the more streamlined nacelle (on the right), however several days of online searching have proven no results. There doesn’t seem to be any aftermarket part of this area for a 1:48 P-38.

If anyone has a surplus part, or knows of a service that can produce a custom part, that would be wonderful. At this point the only other option I have is to scratch build it, which I don’t feel confident doing.
Any help is appreciated! If you need more info just ask.

There is no aftermarket conversion for the P-38F because there is a kit of it. The P-38F was produced by both Acadamy and Hasegawa (also release under the Monogram Pro Modeler label) in 1/48

That is true, and the RAAF conversion recommends the Academy Glacier Girl (P-38F) kit (although it states the P-38E kit is fine as long as you source something for the engine nacelles - which is my intent now), however I don’t have the money right now to spare for an entire new kit. On top of that I would have to pay large shipping prices (thanks Australia) because we don’t have much selection where we live.

Actually, Koster made a vacuform conversion set for the old Monogram P-38 that included the early engine nacelles.

But who knows if you can still find one. I’m not sure if Koster is around anymore. And as Bronto said, there are now early model P-38 kits available, so no need for a conversion.

Koster sold it to a new company about 3 years ago and retired. No word yet on restarting his lineup of custom parts.

Edit: it was sold to Resin2Detail

I wonder what happened to all the vacuform conversion or straight kits. I didn’t see any of them on the resin2detail site. I remember Koster having a early B-17 conversion and G3M Nell in 1/48. That is the only way to get those subjects in 1/48…
