p-38 putt putt maru progress & p-38 conversion

hey guys!

here’s an update on the progress for the maru and the ongoing conversion of an old p-38 to a p-38m. its been a while since i last posted, work just keeps hampering the buildin process. well, gotta earn to build more. hey ed! hope ya like this one, although its still at a very early stage, its quite a challenge again. its the first time i tried building 2 planes at the same time. havent added the same cockpit details to the conversion yet, but that’ll come along very soon. i tried a hand on wrapping up the stabilizer with foil but i guess im not pretty happy with the results. so heres a question, foil or paint???helpful tips very much appreciated!! thanks guys!!

Looking great, James. I love the P-38’s and yours both look like they’ll be top notch. Keep the pic coming,

James, Good to see ya posting again!! Looks good from here! I got something on my desk top I’ll see if I can’t email it to ya. I’d say go with the foil but, I have yet to try it myself smokinguns3 has a Foiled B-29 on here

iirc he has a link to the other thread on the bird in here.

It has been said that Bare Metal Foil is the stuff to use rather than your basic household Aluminum foil.

Peace,

Eddie

is this another Academy 1/48?

Nice looking builds James. Check into Alclad I have used it on several builds and it looks great.

Thad

Looking GOOD !

thanks all guys,

hope i finish these 2 before christmas. hey ed, this is another academy 1/48 lightning. i tried this aluminum tape i found in the local hardware store but im havin trouble cause its thinner than the industrial grade but a little thicker than the household foil. its kinda hard setting it down so, i was thinkin bout just paintin at all over. they dont have BMFoil at the local hobby store. i have another problem that you guys might be of help. i already set the canopies to a closed position for the m variant but it turned out that when i put the pieces altogether(5 of them) and set them on top of the cockpit, im missing one part. i dunno if its included in the kit tho but i have to modify the back end of the radar operators area. the canopy for the radar ops doesnt have anything to stay on. plus i have to add side panels also coz the canopy is set higher than the pilot’s canopy, it doesnt have anything to set on either. i guess i’d have to practice on plastic and putty to get this done. you guys have any suggestions??

james

Ok James, Check out this build on a P-38M, It’s the Revellogram one but hey, might be of some input.

Now about the foil, you can have your wife pick some BMF up while she’s away…[:-^]

hey guys,

its been too long for this project and its a new year already. i just want to share some of the progress that i had done for the past month. here are pics of the conversion progress for the P-38m. ive dismantled the old P-38’s cockpit and added the radar operator’s seat. i then extended the sidewalls upward with some scraps from the spares box. after that, i added some putty but i was hesitant about the panel outlines in that area. so, i cut strips of aluminum tape and just added strip by strip to simulate the lines. after that, it was sprayed all over with black. im still sourcing for decals as of the monent. for the P-38j, im still in the final painting process, i didnt cover it up with foil cause i might mess up. ill post the pics when i can…

ITS GREAT TO BE BACK!!!
