Hi Seakinght,
Revell came out with a 1/32 scale P-38 eons ago and I’ve heard it’s really showing its age. It’s best to be avoided due to fit problems, bad or inacurate or missing details, huge rivets, etc. Trumpeter just came out with their 1/32 scale P-38 which is a lot better but I think you’ll be paying quite a bit for it (about $125 MSRP). It would be up to you to build the Revell kit for waaaay less money (but a bit more clean up work) or to get a better kit (but still has some problems) for a lot more bling. Speaking only for myself I think I’d get the Revell P-38. I just can’t see spending $125 for any model. I love the hobby but that’s just a bit pricey for me. I would only spend $125 for a model if and ONLY if it was a 1/24 scale P-61. Hey I can dream can’t I?
Eric
There are a few 1/48 P-38’s out there. The Monogram is the oldest raised detail and all. Hasegawa has a P-38F/G/H kit and also a P-38J. I have built the J nice kit. Minicraft has all of the above plus a P-38M Night Lightning, the F-5 photo Lightning, a Droop Snoot bomber, and the P-38L Pathfinder. Hope this helps JOHN
Also, in 1/48 scale there are the old Revell/ Monogram, Academy & Hasegawa kits. The Hasegawa is the best detailed, the Academy is the easier build, & the Revell/Monogram is the cheapest. Academy recently released a new tool of the P-38 in 1/72 that is really an excellent little kit.
