I just received via ebay the excellent Academy 1/48 Peashooter kit. I would like to do a 94th pursuit squadron ship in light blue circa 1937-38.
Unfortunately, the kit versions calls for the olive drab which was a color scheme in 1935-36. Looking online, I was able to find reference to a “True” blue and a Light blue 23[:^)] No FS number.
Does anybody know what the FS number is, or what the color blue would be in either Tamiya acrylics or Model master enamels??

The prewar Blue was FS 35109. The closest match I’ve found “out of the bottle” is Floquil Light Blue enamel from their model railroad color line. ModelMaster Blue Angel Blue mixed with about 20% White is fairly close.

Model Master also has a 35109 pre mixed. It is called Blue but it has the FS number
Mike, I don’t know if you are going to be able to match these colors to an FS equivalent. These paints were in use before the FS standard, actually at the time that they were trying to develop an A/N (army-navy) standard. The best way to to do it is to match a reliable color chip and custom mix. There is a good set of chips in Robert Archer’s Monogram Army Air Service Color Guide 1908-1941.
For the A/N True Blue, you can come very close with FS15102, but the Light Blue 23 has more green in it. The The closest Munsell notation I can come up with is Dark Blue 29, which is 4B2.8/3, if you can find a Munsell book. Lightening that color about 25% will get you close.
For what it’s worth, 30+ years or so ago, I built a large balsa “stick model” Peashooter which still hangs in my den. Its body is olive drab and its wings are yellow. I have no idea how authentic this is, but it looks nice.
In those days, you could buy a nice big Comet stick model kit for a buck or two…
