Out of the box... again...

Well it’s been awhile since this Jug’s been out of the box. You may all remember my topic “I’m no poser…” from forever ago. This is the P-47 Razorback that I started then and some pictures of it as it sits on the model desk today. Just got done spraying Olive over Neutral gray. Because I used spray cans (Airbrush still isn’t up…) I was scared to use a soft mask, so the edge is too sharp. Once again this is a learning experience though so I’m not taking it too serious. Boy it looks much better sprayed though… better than brushed that’s for sure!!

This is what it looked like before…

Here it is now. You’ll notice I left an area on the nose and tail surfaces unpainted… the nose will have a red band and the tail will be checkered.
Thanks for looking.

What kit?7 Scale is this jug??

Thad

Looks great so far AJACKETSFAN. I too used to use nothing but spray cans and am still getting used to using a airbrush.

looking good mate

Not too shabby. Looks like you got a little motivation going on again.

looks like a superb paint job from my house adam!! head on down to the workbench and get off the computer so we can see the finished bird!! good luck on the home stretch friend. later.

Is this the Monogram 1/48 P-47? If so I built two here recently one of them was a checkertail with a red band on the cowl just like yours. If it is just a warning (you probably already know this though) that you do have to paint the tail yellow before putting the checkertail decals on. Again you probably know that already but I found a couple who didnt…

looks more like a 1/72. i could be wrong. adam that looks great. going to show it to my oldest boy, he has a p-47 that has been sitting for a while, maybe he will be inspired to work on it.

Looks good, Adam ! Wise decision about the tail & cowl. Looking forward to your progress. (at your rate, will you be done in a couple of days?

Looking good so far. Hope to see the finished Jug real soon.

Looks good mate. I’m interested to know what kit and scale it is.

Looks great. Since you said it was too sharp an edge, did you mask the edge with tape? and since you sprayed with a can did you have to complete mask the under surfaces before spraying or were you able to come up with another way??

Thanks,
Leon

Looks great so far…I always prefered the razorbacks over the bubble tops!

Regards, Dan

Nice build, good finish with those cans…don’t know how ya did it.

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I’ll try to answer some of the questions you have. This is an Academy 1/72 kit, I’m hoping that the decals are going to be ok because I’ve heard some really bad things about them. I did mask with tape… I’ve found that I really like the Tamiya brand so far. The entire bottom was masked off in addition to the cowl ring and tail for the application of the green. As far as the checkers on the tail I was going to just apply them… should I paint yellow on first? By the way the Tamiya acrylic paint that I used really impressed me… this is the first I’ve ever used a spray can and it was very forgiving. It also dried very quickly (this is the first time I’ve used acrylics) which I found very helpful. Thanks again for all of your great feedback.

Yeah, those Academy decals can be a little on the thick side, but use a decal softener and setter, and you’ll be fine.

Bird looks great so far by the way, and I know what you mean about Tamiya masking tape, it really is the best.

Looks very nice so far!

Nice color combination, keep up the good work.
