Our Latest Acquisitions Since 2017

I have a love/hate relationship with the Squadron Hobbies “notify me when back in stock” emails.

That Voyager kit has tempted me for years. A guy on another forum did one last year with the full PE set. Fantastic.

EDIT: and a custom lighted base. Found a pic

That is just excellent. I’m thinking a base incorporating the golden disc - perhaps with a way to play the recording…?

Oh, and the PE set is on order already.

Today was a busy delivery day.

An order from FSM arrived (courtesy of the gift card they are giving out to posters with high post counts):

This will be the last matt that I get, as I already had the Spitfire and Thunderbolt but didn’t really have room for the Mustang.

I’ve been on a Japanese warbird kick lately (recently added Claude and Sonia).

I know very little about the Judy, but it’s long been a subject I wanted to build based on this photo:

And then these came in late today.

These are 3D prints that a fellow in Florida made and is selling (although I’m not sure how long that will be the case if he doesn’t have licensing to do so). I opted to roll the dice on these given that they might not be available for long, and they represent some long-wanted favorites.

The first is everyone’s introduction to Star Wars with the Rebel Blockade Runner. Other than the hand-sized Bandai kit, I’ve never seen any commercial kit of this vessel.

The second is the medical frigate we see briefly at the end of The Empire Strikes Back. An antenna had broken off during shipping, but it was still in the packaging and I have identified where it will need to be re-attached.

The final one is the USCSS Nostromo from Alien (the best science fiction movie ever made and the scariest movie ever made, IMO). Curiously, this one has some tiny antennas on the bottom that did not break away.

All of these seem to be of very good quality, high detailed and of hefty weight. Unfortunately, I can’t light them up, and the Star Wars ships do not come with a stand as does the Nostromo. I will have to paint them, but other than that, they are display ready.

Just got this 1/100 Qantas E190 in the mail today! Ordered it last week for 80% retail, so super glad about that. Bought it as a gift for myself because I got through my first round of midterms this semester!

It’s technically prebuilt, but I want to sand it down and throw on either a Air Astana (for emotional sentimental reasons) or the Alliance Air RAAF 100th livery. Not sure which one to go for…

Got a great deal on the Seasprite at spruebrothers sale + damaged box. Kit looks all in tact in the box. And the Titanic will sit next to my 1/350 Minicraft whenever I finish it

It’s with great joy my Hasegswa A-7 has arrived, I hear it is a great kit and will likely move up near the top of my build schedule. I’m going to branch out from my norm (USMC and Navy) and do an AF bird for a change. Love that camouflage!

One of my all-time favorite planes. That’s a great kit. I built one years ago (USN - long gone) and have another in the stash along with the HobbyBoss TA-7C

I’m very tempted to do the high-viz Navy version that’s on the box art but I just fell in love with that grey/green AF paint job so maybe I’ll build another one day… Oh damn, my stash… MUST… Control the STASH!

You could build them side by side…

I briefly considered it. I tried it once with two Hasegawa F-14s (A and D) but never made it past the cockpit and they went on the shelf of doom along with my entire stash for 30 years. I still have both, though it is VERY unlikely I will build the A model at this point. Not sure what to do with a kit that is started, though only just, but it is taking up valuable stash space.

I built a couple of F6F-5’s and an F4F-4 and had them displayed on a shelf. They recently lost a dogfight with a ball or flying blanket or ???

I’m trying to decide on whether to trash them or build a diorama. The good news is that I get to build new ones to replace them. But it will be a while until I buy their replacements. I have a lot of kits already in my stash.

There is a T version? I didn’t know that. How is it? I generally build the two seaters of anything. I built the OA-4M, have a TAV-8 and the YA-10b. Love the odd ball kits like those.

Plastic looks good. Reviews say there’s some shape/accuracy issue particularly around the intake. I’m going to do mine as an aggressor.

Picked up this yesterday for 40% off at Hobby Lobby. I’ve been wanting one of these for awhile. The Artemis program has reawakened my interest in real space stuff

I built that as a kid! My dad worked on Apollo 11 and I was fascinated by it!

Is it on sale nationality or just your local store? How much was it?

It is on their site nationally. Every few weeks their models are 40% off… no more 40% coupons like they used to have. Anyways at 40% off it was $16.90 plus tax. Not a bad deal at all. You will have to wait for the next week of 40% models though, as that just ended yesterday. Keep an eye on their website.

Very cool that your dad worked on the Apollo program. A father of friend who I met later in life also worked on that program for North American Aviation in LA. I saw lots of his memorabilia from the program. Great stuff!

Yes, we moved to Huntsville for a few years while he worked on it. I have a metal and a certificate that was made from the Apollo 11 metal thanking him for his work.

I remember being called in from outside as a 6 year old to watch Armstrong take his first steps. Side note, moon landing deniers really p%&S me off.

I think I need to get that kit into the stash so I can put this metal and plaque on it.

I’ve eyeballed that Saturn V rocket for a while now. Now to quote the Godfather regarding new kits - every time I think I’m out, they pull me back in.

Speaking of Apollo 11, I have been doing a project at work that uses AI to evaluate old software code repositories to determine what language the code was written in and what level of effort would be required to modernize that code. One of the repositories I used to do some testing on my solution was literally the guidance control system used during Apollo 11. My solution correctly identified the code language as Assembly (actually a custom implementation of Assembly they created specifically for Apollo 11). I told some of the folks at work that I was “geeking out” over this as at one point during high school, I actually wanted to work for the space program.
