Got a 1/200 C-130H in the mail today! Planning on a Delta L-100 Air Freighter livery.
Fun project! I never new any commercial lines flew the Hercules. Following along.
I would like to see the "Herc’ in those markings too.
I remember around in 1999-2000 our plant had to charter C130’s to send Chevrolet Suburban roof panels to the GM Mexico plant due to rail logistic issues-there weren’t enough ‘special’ truck trailers that could be used (due to the length of the roof panel). Don’t remember if it was Katlitta Air but they did provide expedited air freight for automotive ‘back in the day’…and I’m sure C130s were used due to the cargo capacity and ability to operate from short runways-CRW before the expansion projects.
Hah. Instant starter stash. Just in case you didn’t already have one.
As far as I know, here in Canada, only one airline used Hercs. Last one was sold off in 2014-15 I think.
Looks like it pays to enter the raffles! Nice haul!
Great haul! That vigilante must be a big bird when complete. I like the DC-9 - you can get decals at Joy Decals or Draw decals. I really like the 1/200 Hasegawa airliners.
Oh Ranger Chris, you got a Trumpeter RA-5C! It’s such a cool plane, but the model is less so. Fire up your modeling horsepower when you crack that box open! Adding some kind of internal brace to the fuselage cures many ills.
There was a commercially available wood brace, but it was bulky and blocked off the intakes - which don’t exist in the kit. Aaaaargh!
And a kingpost for the fin will help it stay upright.
The kit’s engineering is just donkey.
Oh absolutely, plus it also helps support the clubs putting on these shows. I would say across the last 15 years, I have more than made my money back. In fact because of a couple grand prizes I am probably close to double.
I already knew going in that Trumpeter kits are hit and miss for engineering so I was not expecting Tamiya levels. End of the day though it is about the only option for an A-5 in 1/48.
Ranger Chris, you’re so right about Trumpeter kits being “Hit or Miss.” Sometimes they go together so easily and other times they’re so over engineered! Instead of molding a part in one or two pieces like Tamiya does they’ll make you glue 12 tiny pieces together to get the same part.
Oh sweet! let me know how that DC-9 builds up! I was interested in picking one of those up eventually!
I think in the US, Delta, Slick Air, and Lynden were the primary ones. I know DrawDecal has stuff for Delta, but I think I also saw some Lynden as well!
I think I would do that DC-9 in Hughes Airwest livery. Draw has them.
Transamerica flew C-130’s also. I used to know a flight engineer who was on them.
These were in my mailbox today after taking almost 2hrs to get home from work on a normal 25-minute drive (fuel spill on I-10).
These are going onto the to-build stash for this year, and joining them will be Monogram’s old F7F Tigercat in 1/72, in the old baby blue box. When completed, they will join the two old Monogram F8F Bearcats (1/72) that I have already completed, and will be my 1/72 Grumman Cats collection, part 1. Part 2 will come along eventually, with two Minicraft F11F Tigers (1 will be in Navy colors, the other in Blue Angels (yeah, also Navy)), and an old Monogram 1/72nd F-14 Tomcat that I have in the stash.
Nice! Sorry about the drive home. Isn’t that the way it goes when you have something exciting waiting for you at home? I hope no one was hurt.
Going to my local model club’s auction tomorrow. I’m hoping I’ll find and buy some decent acquisitions tomorrow.
