I have been inspecting it and it could be on my bench as soon as I finish the last bit of the Ki-45 Nick.
My initial assessment after looking at the manual is that this could be made to work. Everything is in the box, no AM stuff is needed. The brass chain is bright and should be black or at least a steel colour but I have already bought some blackened chain which should match the stuff in the kit from Mirror Models in Ireland!
I will not beat about the bush and say that this cost me £9.80 plus £10 registered shipping. Cheapest I can find here in the UK is £25.99 plus shipping and due mid march.
I do want to compare this to the Takom offering, of which there are several sets due from them with reference to the V2. My China supplier doesn’t have the Takom one in and Pocketbond who are the importer for Takom here in the UK have the RRP set at an eye watering price of £49.99. in Germany I can get this for 42.50 € plus shipping!
My usual UK supplier does the Takom offering for £39.99 plus shipping. Might get one next week!
I did. It usually takes a week for it to get here and you get a tracking number. I think that if you deduct the shipping price which modellers should reguard as an occupational hazard, £9.80 verses the UK price of £25.99 is really a huge saving!
I have used them for quite a few kits, especially AM ones. But i do think their shipping is high and they use this to make it look like they have cheap prices. I have seen other sellers from China with the same item at a more realistic price and free shipping.
So if you look at that crane, the actual price of £19.80 while it is cheaper isn’t as big a saving as it looks. I have als noticed in the past that they don’t combine shipping, which tells me they are useing the shipping to make up the differance. I have moved away from them recently chooseing other sellers even if it costs a few quid more.
Bish, those Meng Tiger IIs are amazing kits.
Just a little heads-up regarding the only real flaw I could find with them: They sit way too high on their suspension, so you might want to lower it a tad (and make the rear end sag like on so many pictures of those tanks).
Cheers for the heads up. I’ll make a note of that. I know they used the Bovvy Tiger for referance. I wounder if that is missing interiour parts which make it lighter so the suspension sits higher.
I have been piddling around with small purchases for my 1/350 Airizona. Recently I got several different P.E. kits for the rails, cranes, boats, and catupult. I also recently received the metal turned guns I ordered for it. I’m still waiting for the recently purchased wood deck for it. I’m getting all of this in anticipation of the U.S. ship group build later this year.
I also ordered some 1/16 figures (4) for my on-going kubelwagen build:
The Arizona will be a great addition. I too have a wood deck on order for it. I already have the GGM PE set but haven’t ordered the barrels yet. I will be building the North Carolina for the build.
Picked up some nice BAe Hawks this weekend along with the 1/600 King George V, Moskva, and HMS Belfast. Those three vintage Airfix maritime kits hold up somewhat well even though they are quite old.
I have been eyeing up that last Hawk myself, they look like nice kits. I am doing the belfast for Steves British Ships GB, should be getting to that in a month or 2.
I’ve been to Bovington last year and their Tiger II is in pretty bad shape to be honest, with an entire roadwheel pair, including the suspension arm, missing completely. It even leans to one side as a result of that.
I don’t know how it looks internally, but I doubt that suspension still works properly.
All that being said, Its stance looks pretty good to me height-wise.
