Did Otto Carius Tiger tank have Zimmeret on it. Me and my Dad have finished reading Otto Caius’s book Tigers In The Mud and I want to possibly make a dio with Otto Carius’s Tank.
Thank you. Manstein you’ve read his book right. Theres a part in there were he talks of bringing infantry up on trucks, do you think if I got the zvezda 4.5T truck and put some infantry in it, but also have an German anti tank gun dug in would that be a good diorama set up?
there are a couple other ones (Opels) out there as well. Plus several other smaller trucks in one form or another. I read that same book, and it left me thinking of something more like a Horch or maybe in between them. A Blitz would stand out like MT. Everest in that flat terrane; plus the bridges were pretty bad in the Leningrad area too.
Now the question is what would be he appropriate figures to be seated in the truck? I now Tamiya makes a Waffen SS figure kit with 4 men sittig unless I paint them in wehrmacht military uniforms,9Would that work) but I want there to be more, anyone know of any kits out there with sitting soldiers besides tamiya’s.
[edit] Would tamiya’s krupp truck kit 35259 work? Or was that out dated?
You could always try your hand at modifying them to be in the seated position, one or two that were standing in the back of the truck might not be too bad either…
The appropriate figures would be German Infantry… [;)] (By the way, "painting them in Wehrmacht military uniforms " is like saying you want to paint Americans “in US Armed Forces uniforms”… The word, Wehrmacht means “Armed Forces”. The Waffen-SS (Armed SS), Luftwaffe, Kreigsmarine, and Heer are all “Wehrmacht”. Army, in German is, “Heer”.) Seriously though, let’s start with your ideas then work from there. What exactly are you wanting to depict? A truck and a tank parked near each other is all you’ve got so far. Not much happening there. Are you talking about this Krupp?
Anyway, it wouldn’t be outdated, no…
[#ditto]
Maybe you should come over to the Diorama forum and we can brainstorm this one…
That Tiger was built in early February 1944 and it has Zimmerit. It also has the gun travel lock on the rear hull. I would recommend the Tamiya “Mid” kit. I don’t know what’s in their “Carius” kit; probably it’s the same plastic.
Basicly the only difference between the 2 sets are a figure set that is meant to represent Otto and his crew, but which looks nothing like him (Otto was rather small and skinny man) and some single link plastic tracks, and ofcourse a crazy price tag. Don’t get me wrong i still like the Tamiya mid kit, just get the regular one.
