I am planning to build a model of the Jagdtiger commanded by Otto Carius in 1945. Does anyone know if it had zimmerit or not? If it was a '43 production vehicle it would have and if it was a '45 one it wouldn’t…but I don’t know which it was since there was very little difference.
None of the Henschel suspension Jagdtigers had zimmerit. Most of the of the Porsche suspension ones had them. The first prototype was finished in April '44 with Porsche suspension. These weren’t satisfactory. By the time full production was underway with a traditional torsion bar suspension, zimmerit was no longer added.
I’m 99% certain that Carius didn’t have one of the Porsche suspesion JTs.

The pictures of Jagdtigers on this page are probably from the 512th. At least the ones shown in the town like #17. I think that’s why I bookmarked it. [:)]

I seem to remeber him talking about using a jagtiger in his book, I remember he commented on how he didnt like using it, and complained that it had no turret.
Thanks for the help so far. I have read that while he didn’t like the Jagdtiger for exactly that reason, he and 2 other PzJgAbt 512 vehicles destroyed an entire company of shermans in under 5 minutes.
