Otto Carius' Jagdtiger - photos anyone?

Since I use the internet as my primary modeling reference, I was wondering if any of you with larger libraries than me happen to have any pictures of Otto Carius’ Jagdtiger, or know if any exist. I’m also looking for his turret number, which I could probably figure out if no one else knows.

I’ve got the Dragon Jagdtiger, Jaguar interior, LionRoar detail set, Aber Barrel, and Fruil tracks all ready to go…but I need to finish research first.[;)]

In his book Mr. Carius states he was a company commander in the 512th hunting tiger battalion. He doesn’t say which company he commnded and didn’t include any photos of the vehicle in the book. Almost all of the photos I have of hunting tigers show them knocked out or destroyed by their crews. I don’t think any of them state which unit the vehicle belonged to either. Not much help I know.

…I suspect he would have included those pics in his book if they existed…given the time of the war involved (early '45) I doubt any exist…however, last I heard Otto was still alive so if you were clever and lucky enough you might be able to correspond with him for the needed info…last I heard he was running his own chemical company in Germany…

…he fully cooperated when Tamiya released their Otto version of their Tiger I…there is a story about him in a Armour Modeling Mag issue which shows him holding the Tamiya kit…he looks almost the same as pics of him during the war !!!..

MR do you know if this armor modeling mag has any thing on him online? this article? like you can find in the FSM archives here? if not do you happen to know what number the mag is? i would love to order it and have one.

I’m just going to echo the above comments. If there were photos, at least one of us would know about them.

“I know nothing…nothing” - Sgt. Schultz. [:P]

i’m talking about the article of him with the tamiya release, not the pics.

OK, from the bilges of my mind I recall a set of photos of a platoon sized group(probably remnents of a company) of Jagdtigers formed up in a town square to surrender. For some reason I am thinking that might be his company.

dang!! he hasn’t changed a bit! thanks for the pics MR. is the whole thing in chinese? or is there english text also?

…it is mostly in Japanese…the dio is him in his famous “217”…sorry, but no info particular to what you are looking for…

no, that’s good. i just wanted a peek at him in his later years, and you provied me the info that i was looking for. thanks

There are photos of sPzJgAbt. 512 surrendering at Iserlohn. Here are some photos on this page;

No telling which vehicle belongs to which crew though…

Yup…I found that one as well…Looks like a good site although I wish the google translate feature worked there. OOh well I’m still looking. There has to be info some where!

well not exactly a chemical company, just a chemist shop, actually it’s called the tiger chemist.

Apart from his own book “Tigers in the mud” he has written the forword to “Sledge hammers”, there is an interview with him in Uwe Feist’s book “Tiger I 50th anniversary comemorativ edition” and his has participated in a program about the tiger tank on history channel along with other well known commanders like Richard freiherr Von Rosen and Alfred Rubbel.

Just like everyone else i haven’t seen any picture of his Jagdtiger nor do i know which number it had if any.

Found this online earlier today on the above mentioned foriegn page and downloaded it.

It appears to be the formation of sPzJagAbt 512 although there is no telling if Carius’s issued Jagd Tiger was even running at the time or if he took over a subordinates’ vehicle because of damage or mechanical breakdown but he was in charge of the 2nd company if I’m not mistaken.

I’ve read way too much tonight.

Hope this helps.

I went briefly through that discussion at www.modelforum.cz and figured out, that O.C. was leader of 2nd companie of Pz.Jg.Abt.512 what means that his jagdtiger should have number 201(according to the order of battle picture) but in another sources we can find, that 1st company vehicles had “X…” marking and 2nd company vehicles had “Y…” marking. So it is not easy to tell for sure so far, I will contunue reading that czech discussion and also check some german forums, which are wery accurate…

Well…concerning the unit emblem I have; " Sitting Black Toy Bear silver" (That GliedmaBen word is throwing me ) so far.

im sorry 9 toe tanker but the site your trying to post pics from doesn’t allow direct linking so the pictures don’t show here.

Close up Pic supposedly of the sPzJagAbt 512 unit emblem but it has Russian soldiers on it. I Dunno. Although the units of the 1st & 2nd companies fought separately from one another it is plausable…except I think the fact that the Russians made it onto Carius’s vehicle in the Ruhr pocket unlikely. The “Y” Markings are coming up as credible as far as I can tell at this point of research. This vehicle also clearly shows camoflauge of some sort.
