I had to shelve the hobby for obvious reasons when my twins were born last September (9/11–crazy), but now that I have a healthy and happy boy and girl over a year old, and we’ve sold the condo and bought a house, I’m ready to get back into it. The new place has only a small basement, but it’s pretty ideal for a work area (already has metal shelving installed that’s perfect for storing paints, so I think the previous owner also was a hobbyist–also found an unopened package of sable brushes). I’ve ordered a spray booth and a Grex brush, so I’m on point!
Now the big problem is which kit to tackle first, since my stash has grown just a weeee bit since last year. Since I’m rusty, thinking of digging into a nice big juicy jet, OOB, maybe the Revell Prowler.
Try something easy. A nice Tamiya or Academy kit if you have one. My first kit when I got back in the saddle (though after 20 years) was a Revell F-14 Tomcat. Terrible seams on that kit. Unfortunately, it’s still in the box unfinished.
First off, Welcome back! Glad the little chitlins are well and you can get back to the “important” stuff.[:P]
Secondly, it’s only been just over a year. Not really all that long. You may be quite surprised, coming back better than before. I had a nearly 3 year break, came back with Trumps 1/32 P-40, it turned out WAY better than anything I had ever done before. Sometimes a “break”, is just what the doctor ordered!
You’re right that being away gives you fresh perspective. I’m eager to see how I do.
I have a few 1/32 subjects, too (Revell Ju-88, Hasegawa Stuka, Revell Hawker Hunter), even a couple of 1/35 helos (ARV Club Super Cobra and Trumpeter Hind). Very tempting.
