Started working on these models during Dupes’ 1,000 road wheels GB. Obviously didn’t get them done, so I’ve brought them over here. I got a new AB (badger 150) that I’m trying out, so the painting is not that great as I’m still learning it.
The kits:
CMK Ostwind- Kit is okay, the CMK plastic was very hard and difficult to work with.
Academy Sturmgeschutz IV- Decent kit for its age.
These are both OOB. Still have many things to fix before decaling and weathering.

Hi Stephen. First off congrats on the AB. Personally, I think that it makes a world of difference when painting. Not sure the air-source your using, but it looks pretty good. I found that a compressor with a regulator makes a huge impact when spraying, thus controlling the flow of paint. It definitely takes some time to master an AB, so keep at it.
Like you, I didn’t get my Panzer IV J done for his build and need to return my attention to it.
Getting an AB and getting comfortable with it is a great step forward IMHO, looks like you’ve got a good handle on it so far. Nice work on both. [Y]
Congrats on the airbrush purchase! My advice is thin more and build up color slowly. This gives you a lot more control and helps avoid areas that look too thick.
I still tend to shoot very thin paint and build it up slowly. Using Tamiya I thin a bit over 50% and shoot very low psi.

Two very nice looking builds you have going there chap!
I’m still using my single action AB running off propellant cans so apart from primer/base coats and wheels I’m very limited on what I can do. I’ve got my new AB but unexpected costs on the car etc ate into my compressor fund so I’m going to be another month at least until my ‘proper’ AB is up and running now.
The single action jobbie is ok but there is no control over pressure and the spray cannot be altered - it’s either on or off so it’s very easy to overcook a base coat and get runs etc but I manage. That’s why at the minute I’m limiting myself to basic paint schemes.
Best of look with it, it looks like you are doing good already and keep us posted on the progress of these two super builds - the StuG inparticalur is very nice and has a lot of potential imo.

Thanks everyone for looking in. I really enjoy the new AB. The set I got came with fine, medium and large tips with needles. I think my main problem is with the compressor. It’s a Campbell Hausfeld with double storage tanks and it’s own regulator. My problem is when I set a psi of around 15 and start painting, it does not retain the pressure. If I keep it above 20 it works well but then I have too much pressure for the finer spray. Anyway will keep practicing and trying to get it set up right.

I send my air at 100psi fromthe compressor to this little guy, and regulate it down as fine as I need it from here. It also traps any condensation from the compressot before it gets to my airbrush.

The 150 is a good solid AB. Congrats. Now practice, practice, practice. You will either have awesome models or end up in Carnegie Hall.
