I just figured out that a man that is 5’9" tall is 5.007…cm tall in 1:35 scale. Does anyone know if this is why 1:35 came to be standard for armor/figures?
Hi Mortar: 1/35 was the invention of Tamiya. Originally model scales were formulaic in that they generally followed scale down versions based on inches/feet/yards. 1/48, 1/72, 1/24, 1/32. 1/35 was on oddball. Mr. Tamiya writes in his auto biography that his company produced some early items that were close to 1/32 but rather than re-do his line, just stayed with 1/35. Because Tamiya became so prolific, their scale dominated AFV sizing.

Interesting factoid. Thanks for the tips.[:)]
I thought I had read somewhere, that the first armored vehicle by Tamiya was remote control and to fit the batteries in it, the model had to be 1/35th scale. I could be wrong though especially since I have not read the book.

That’s something I too have heard mentioned around.
