Anyone tired of seeing the same old reference photos? I know I am. If anyone has any original WWII or other photos of armor should post them here. I’ve recently begun collecting old photos that I’ve found on eBay. It’s cool seeing a different view of a tank instead of the standard reference shot found in all the books. If anyone has anything someone might find helpful post it here. I hope that someone will find inspiration in the photos I post.
Here’s my first one. I’ll post more as I scan them.
It appears that Russians captured this Pz IV. Can anyone tell what unit it’s from? This could make an interesting project.
EDIT: Just realized I already had these two in my Photobucket.
Cool, I knew that picture was a copy but didn’t know it was in a book. I’ll keep an eye out for those figures. Thanks.
Huxy, want to post your favorites?
Here’s the rest of my collection. I’m expecting 3 more in the mail in the next couple of days. My dad has some as well. I’ll ask him if he wouldn’t mind me posting them too.
^This one is on a book I have, but it’s original.
This one says it was taken in 1940 but the rest of the writing is covered in glue residue from when it was in someone’s album.
I’ve never seen skirts like that on a StuG before. I like the T34 tracks on the hull. Those StuG’s were more than likely captured. There is writing in Russian on the back. It’s probably my favorite photo.
It looks like a couple of MG crews at rest on the back of a truck? Those are AA tri pods right?
Only note of caution…taking photos from other sites may involve copyrights as the case may be. Just something to think about. Clearly private photos purchased from eBay and posted up here don’t fall under that limitation. [;)]
I’ve got to go through my grandfathers things, I have many photos of him at Monte Cassino, but mostly of him and his squad members, If I recall not many vehicles, however many damaged buildings in Livorno/Leghorn etc.
I agree that real photos taken by people you knew are much better and mean more than the ones we see a thousand times in books.
I’ve got my Gramps uniform and helmet and a lot of stories.
My uncle was in the 116th CE attached to the 29th on June 6, 1944, and then onto the Bulge and he sent home a treasure trove of Nazi uniforms guns etc. He long ago sold them and I bet today they would be worth a small fortune. I don’t know how he got guns sent home but he did.
That tank was 18th Panzer Division and it wouldn’t surprise me if that one was captured at Kursk where the 18th was destroyed to the point where it was disbanded
Mark that is an interesting pic of the camo pattern on the panther ,i have seen a lot of people try to emilate this pattern on models and they paint little triangles as they dont realize that the pattern is reversed and is actually circles, it kinda bugs me when i see them knowing they are completely wrong as to what the pattern really is. Still there are more important things to worry about in life so hey [zzz]
