Does anyone know of a site that has the different loadouts for the A-1H Skyraider used in Vietnam? I have six Mk 82 extended fuse bombs as well as two napalm containers I want to use from the Hasegawa weapons set and wanted to try and figure out how to load them on the wings along with something else to fill all the available pylon spots. This is kind of a hassle because the Monogram Skyraider kit does not have wing pylons seperately as they are molded into the bombs that came with the kit. I cut them from the kit bombs and am going to put them under the wings and attach the Hasegawa weapons to them.
Hey Mike. Try this site. I haven’t looked at it in awhile but, it had a fairly decent collection of pictures. http://skyraider.org/
Also, you want to keep in mind that the napalm canisters from the Hasegawa kit are not the ones that were carried in Vietnam. The ones you want are the ones that come with the Monogram A-37 Dragonfly kit. They are accurate for Vietnam.
Have fun. The A-1 is one of my favorites. I have several books and magazine articles on the old girl. I also have the Tamiya 1/48 kit, the Hasegawa 1/72 kit, 6 Monogram kits AND 2 Matchbox 1/48 A-1E kits!!
Bummer. [:(]
Well, I guess I can just go with iron bombs only.
This Monogram kit also came with rocket pods but I have never seen ones like this on a Skyraider. They look like single rockets in a tube as opposed to most Skyraider photos that show multiple rocket tubes.
wait a minute…I think you can do some simple surgery to the hasegawa cannisters to
make the vietman era. I did for an A-4 , and bless me if I can’t remember what I did.
You’re right Mike. Some did have fins. But, if you will look closely, the canisters are the same. One with fins, one without. The fins were removed so that the canisters would tumble and spread the destructive power of the nape.
How many canisters were you planning on using? I may have some in my parts stash. Let me know if you’re interested.
Also, concerning the rocket pods. If I am not mistaken, they ARE the multiple rocket pods with the blow away cover on them.
Chopperfan: Let’s talk about your A-1E’s. I’ve been looking for one for years for a 22 SOS “Tropic Moon” bird. didfai@aol.com.[banghead][banghead][banghead]

I was planning on just putting two of them but I am not sure what the ordinance load is going to be anyhow. I received decals in the mail today from Meteor Productions and they are the Cutting Edge #3 VNAF decals, so I guess this is going to be a Vietnamese Skyraider. I think I wasn’t paying attention when I ordered them. [%-)]
Did the VNAF Skyraider’s carry the same loads as the U.S. ones?
No, the ones you are talking about are these ones below correct?
These are not the ones in the Monogram kit. Mine are a single tube that look similar to the LANTIRN targeting pod on an F-15E. I don’t know what they are. [:D]
Okay Mike. If I am not mistaken, those are NOT rocket launchers. They are bomblet dispensers. As the plane flew over the target area the anti-personel bomblets were ejected out the rear.
As far as the nape goes, I do believe that I might have a couple of extras. Like I said, let me know and I’ll dig them out and get them in the mail for ya. [8D]
Mike
Saw a picture the other day of a Navy AD preparing to launch with a complete toilet hung on the starboard outer station (for the life of me can’t remember where I saw it!). That would make for an interesting model.
