Great Models has a sale right now so I couldn’t pass up the 1/48 Tamiya P-51D 8th A.F. Aces kit at $19.20.
I am reading Bud Anderson’s book so I have to build an Old Crow now. [tup]
The P-47D is first though. [;)]

Yeah they put it on sale after I bought it at full rice for the stang build… little grumpy about that.
Isn’t that how it always seems to go? [}:)] But I’d estimate there’s going to be TWO beautiful “Stang’s” flying around here before too long, and I’m looking forward to that! [;)]
Take care,
Frank
LOL, mike, you and me on the same brain wave friend!! i’m doin’ up the True Details pit for “Old Crow” now!! i got the Superscale sheet in a couple of months ago, gonna do the OD over NG shceme, and the NMF version. i’m stoked. how’s the book? i thought is was an excellent read myself!! later.
Chris,
I have only read a little more than the first chapter so far but it has been real good. I want to get the Gabby Gabreski book too when I am done with this one.
Mike
Mike, you could do an F-86 Sabre. The one that Gabby flew and became an ace in the Koren war.It would make a nice addition to the P-47 of Gabbys.Digger
Thanks Digger.
That sounds like a good idea but that will have to wait.
I bought this P-47D, ordered a Tamiya P-51D, decals for the P-47D, and I am bidding on a P-38 on Ebay. If I buy any more the wife is going to go ballistic. [(-D]
Mike
Tell the misses the we are moving to Washington state and that you just have to stock up your kits for a rainy day.Digger
mike, i plan to do the “Old Crow” P-39, P-51B, P-51D, and the F-105. i have located all the decals for each except the P-39. i too would love to read Gebreski’s story!! i’ve seen the 1 hour piece on History Channel dedicated to his story, but i feel like it don’t even scratch the surface.
BTW, did you happen to catch the Yomamoto (i’m not sure thats spelled correctly) ambush on the History channel last night? that was truely a feat!! ofcourse, the argument between the 2 aces that claimed to have shot down Yomamoto’s bomber kinda marred the story a tad, but still a nearly impossible mission accomplished by those guys. the reason i brought that up, they had some excellent fim footage of P-38’s in all kinds of action!! i’m too will model that lovely bird someday, but i gotta wittle down the stash a bit. later.
Hmm a P-38 build… Hmmmm
Mike, you’re gonna like that Tamiya Stang. I’ve built several & really like the kit.
Regards, Rick
I know a guy who got to interview Bud Anderson and Joe Foss and Saboro Sakai for Microsoft. He was working in conjunction with CFS2 and got to do all this. What an awesome experience that would have been. I’m looking forward to seeing all the old crows coming out.
Mike, read Thunderbolt! by Robert Johnson. It’s a great book by a great man, and there’s plenty of Gabby in it as well. I love those old ace bio books.
Sounds like another “must-read” Josh. [tup]
Johnson was a great P-47 pilot also.
It was so cool meeting Bud Anderson and shaking his hand after he signed my book.
What an honor to be able to meet such a great guy. He lives about two hours from me and it would be cool to visit him sometime.
I sure wish I could have met Gabby before he passed away. That would have been so awesome.
Mike
There were “Old Crow” versions of all of those aircraft? Wow! [:0]
No I didn’t. I don’t watch much TV as I am always on the computer. [(-D]
That would be a good idea getting the stash down a bit. You don’t want the little lady building you a doghouse now do you? [:D] [;)]
Mike
LOL, exactly!! you’ll find out towards the end of the book about all the versions of “Old Crow”. i don’t watch much TV either Mike, i just happen to hear the advertisements of the shows while my wife watches tv. my office/hobby room is adjacent to the living room, so i can hear all thats goin’ on in the house most of the time. this is cool, i’m getting some titles of some really good reads on this thread!! i’ve also read the book “An Ace of the Eight” by Bud Fortier. he started his career flying P-47’s in WWII escorting B-17s, then, gradually got introduced to the Stang for escort. His is more of a chronilogical journal of his war experience, not a story. He did take you through flight school and all as well. fairly decent read, but nothing like “To Fly and Fight”. later.
