Order Of Battle References?

I’ve been searching through a lot of older posts trying to find lists of good armor reference materials, and I’ve found more than I’m sure I’ll buy in 10 years…what I’m really looking for is something that covers OOB for German units for WWII (this sort of ties in with roosterpelo’s post from yesterday). It seems like those of you with good collections of reference stuff can find things on individual units, or individual vehicle types…is there a tome available that covers all units? I’m not looking for something with pictures for modelling, just OOB. Mostly for those times when, for example, one wants to model a Tiger and a Stug from the same unit - but doesn’t know if that unit had both vehicles. Know what I mean?

Thanks in advance, fellas.

What you’re looking for is George Nafziger’s “The German Order of Battle: Panzers and Artillery in WW2” There’s a copy on www.bookfinder.com for about $50.

It’s not absolutely complete but has good coverage

I have found unit history books to be some of the best.

In terms of Tigers however there aren’t that many unit history books. So far i have only been able to dig up unit histories on s.Pz.Abt 503, 507 and 508 and Das Reich/s.SS.pz.Abt 102/s.SS.Pz.Abt. 502. There are other books that touch other units.

I would agree with Roy. The Nafzinger books are excellent resources. There are actually 3 books in the series. The one Roy mentions (Panzers and Artillery) as well as a book on German infantry units and a third devoted to SS and other specialized units.

As usual I knew that someone would come through! That sounds exactly like what I’m after.

Thanks Roy!
