I sprayed a couple of wings yesterday and they ended up with a pronounced orange peel finish. I haven’t encountered this before and am wondering what I may have done wrong. I am using model master enamel and hardware store thinner like I always do. Any thoughts?
It’s generally caused by thinner evaporating more quickly than the paint can deal with (hotter weather?), over heavy application can also cause it
Two causes are too much distance between airbrush or spray can and model surface, leading to paint partially drying before it reaches surface, or too high an air pressure with airbrushing. The later leads to excessive distance when spraying.
Junkie, I do not think that temp was a problem, it was about 75F or so. But…I had mixed the paint a little thinner than usual so I really laid it on thick to get it to cover. Don. I was spraying at about 35 psi or so. This is much higher than I normally spray so I noticed that I was increasing my distance. I appreciate both of your inputs. Looks like I should have waited a day or so before painting. Apparently it was one of those days that I cant seem to do anything right, haha.

Weather and humidity is usually the cause. Cool wind / environment can do it as well.
