Options for builiding Mexican air squad P47s 201, WWII

Hi,

If you did not knew this, MExico also fought in WWII. A squadron of fighter planes were deployed to the Phillipines. They flew P47s, so I know the type of aircraft, all photos are B&W so I need help in determining the colors, marks, etc. Does anyone knows if theres a kit or decals, drawings.

It is very interesting how Mexico got in WWII and that Hitler sent a letter to Mexico president to ally with them, so that we should attack the US, diverting resources to the border. Hitler promised that if the Axis won the war, they will return the territories back to Mexico, Arizona, California, Texas, etc…

Did you knew about this?

Saludos!

Googling a little more, I found a color photo.

It seems the P47s were loaned from the US and only the tail was colored with Mexican Flag.

Im more an “armor” guy, but will definitely have to build this one.

Garzohn: Have you ever used Aztez brand decals? I picked some up, haven’t used them yet but the print quality is excellent!

Mexican P-47 sheet

Latin American P-47 sheet

I found this sheet as well but have never used the brand so I can’t vouch for the quality.

Hope it helps, Cliff

Thanks a lot!

Looking at the actual plane, I think I will go with standard P47D model and paint on all the markings, they do not see any hard to reproduce or paint.

Cheers.

Sure!

BTW: Did you see that Stikpusher has been talking about a Latin American group build starting on August 1st? I’m planning a 1/48th Salvadorian ‘Football War’ Corsair. We’d love to have you if you can wait till then.

Sounds good!. I will finish my actual panzer, it will also give me some time to find the right model and paints. Might have to order them online and delivery dates are not very good.

Thanks!

I suggest going with a late modle P-47D kit. Notice how the P-47 has the fin filet. I have used Aztec decals (on my Argentine Mirage IIIEA last year) and can vouch for their quality. Very good decals. Aeromaster also made a Pacific P-47 decal sheet that had these markings. I have a Hasegawa P-47D and that decal set for building one of those Jugs one day…

Also if you look closesly at the photo you posted, on the upper right wing (and presumably lower left) the P-47 has the Mexican AF triangle colors insignia.

The photograph is a P-47D-30-RA. This book:

www.shop.kagero.pl/…/republic-p-47-thunderbolt-vol-iv.html

comes with a decal sheet that features it. It’s a bargain at 7 Euros and you should snap it up.

Thanks, great advice.
