I am heading down to Jacksonville tomorrow for a conference (BORING) but it will be the first time I am in a place that has a Hobby Lobby. Since I lived there, for a few years, 40 years I was going to drive around and see what happened. Is it wortha stop at HL? Is there another LHS that’s even better. And wounldn’t ya know it… there was an online 40% coupon that expired… yup… today.
Hobby Lobby is always closed on Sundays. Tomorrow a new e-mail coupon will be posted. It could be for something non-model related, something like 50% off something specific (like artist supplies or maybe model kits) or another 40% off any one item. It is hard to tell.
For the most part, they carry a decent variety of models. Nothing too exotic though. Most of their kits are listed at MSRP. They normally have a clearance aisle with kits reduced in price. Sometimes the price reduction is minimal, other times it is slashed to bargin basement prices. Normally if a regular price tag has a red marker through the price, that is an indication that the price will be 50% off of the tag.
I’m afraid you’re going to be dissapointed Marc. Hobby Lobby is mostly an artsy crafty, nick-nac, brickabrac, picture frame and lamp store. You’ll find 1 aisle with a very limited model selection. But…if you can score a coupon…I guess it’s worth a look. Good luck.

They do have limited selection, but if they happen to have something you are interested in with 40% off or in the clearance bin, that’s a great deal. I’m not sure who chooses what go on the shelves, but they have anything from cheap $10 beginner models to $75 ones. At least, those in Dallas that I’ve been to.

it really depends on the city, like for example the store at Fort Jackson SC. is very limited (yet still has some good stuff) where as in Corpus Christie TX. they have a tone of good kits.
I was in the Jax Hobby Lobby just before Christmas. Kind of low on the amount of choices, nothing on clearance. Only go if you have a coupon, not worth the trip otherwise.
I agree with the other posts on Hobby Lobby, but if memory serves, there used to be a hobby shop on Atlantic blvd, toward the beach. I think it was “Art’s” something or other. Haven’t been there in a few years, but they used to have a lot of unusual stuff.
