I have an old Mattel machine, but the vacuum pump’s seal has failed. I’m considering the Kingston Canopy Master and one of the larger units, as I like to sctratchbuild. Opinions?

Never heard of it. Tell us more! I would love to have something that would make bigger parts than my Mattel. I built a homemade unit from Doug Walsh’s book but was less than impressed with the result so I trashed the unit.
It’s www.warmplastic.com, Don.

Those units seem to be simple boxes without the heater and the vacuum source. Since the latter two parts of the system are probably more important than the box, those boxes should be okay. Walsh’s book does show how to make the box. It seems to me having a better vacuum source would have made mine work better.
I have one of THESE and it works very well. Large enough for even some of my stick’n’tissue stuff. I use a hot plate to soften the plastic and plastic dinner plates as a source of plastic. Party City carries plates in 10 in size in a variety of colors. Your local grocer/super market might carry the Solo brand which work well too. All about 0.02" thick.
EDIT: Here’s a link to the maker using the one I mentioned: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJVFxK5pseA
Don, you might like this one, it’s a complete machine
