Open Question....

How many military, active, or ex, what branch and what nations soldiers are represented on this forum? If you are/were an armor crewman, what did you serve on?

Me, I am ex U.S. Army (Tanker) Miss my old '60.

Current Active Duty US Army Artillery Major. Currently stationed at Ft Irwin, CA, the National Training Center. Have been on M109A5, M109A6, commanded a Firefinder radar battery in OIF, CO/TRP/BN Fire Support Officer on M981 FIST-V and BFIST, M557 command post vehicles, etc., etc…

I served my country in the National Park Service…does that count?

Howdy,

Former Canadian military officer. Lucky enough to get about 450 hours in hornets. Too junior to go to Iraq the first time around except when they told us we should begin polishing off our infantry skills because they were going to need extra ground-pounders more than un-trained pilots. Great. Never did like the sand unless in was on the beach.

Veteran Sergeant of Marines.
Repaired fire control and avionics systems on UH-1Ns and AH-1Ws.
Armor experience? None, except to say how astoundingly unarmored you feel when you hear gunfire while riding in an aluminum-skinned aircraft…

Retired MSgt USMC, M48/M60A1/M1A1, Desert Storm Tank Commander

U.S.C.G., no armoured targets there, but did my time in on an Icebreaker with a nice thick steel hull, does that count??[:D]

My late father was a Pearl Harbor survivor, off of the USS Utah…don’t suppose that counts…

Former U.S. Navy russian language interpreter (CTI = Cryptologic Technician Interpretive). I was in school in Monterey, Ca and Goodfellow AFB (San Angelo, Tx.). Following school I was stationed on the Black Sea in Sinop, Turkey followed by a heavenly tour at Kunia field station in Oahu, Hi.

U S NAVY ‘63-67. Was on the USS Oklahoma City (CLG5=Cruiser5)as part of the Naval Gunfire Team.We made runs up and down the coast of what used to be South VietNam doing Naval Gunfire missions with our 6 inch guns and sometimes the 5’ if targets were close.Missions were called in by Marine spotters usually.Seeing those guns fire at night (3 barrels per turret) from about 50 feet away was awesome!

Quite a mixed group here. Cameraflage, you made me laugh. Good one.
Thanks to all for answering. Even if you aren’t exactly a veteran. Still some real interesting answers. Thanks again.
