Hello, I had some overspray on a 1/48th Tamiya P47 around the wing root that got onto the fuse . (Used Tamiya XF-4 for inside of wing root area) I swabbed with a qtip some testors dried paint solvent to remove it. Plastic is now crazed and looks like it had started to eat into it ever so slightly. I quickly removed what I could with water and windex. Will this process of crazing stop and is it going to harm an alclad finish? I will be priming with the grey primer and microfiller from alclad. Will the primer put a barrier coat so what little solvent that soaked in wont creep back up? I think I can micro mesh it out, but would like some input if anyone has ever had this problem before. I know, I know test on a scrap piece! Dohh!!
Thanks
Aaron
Hi Jam
Never used Alclad so cant say, but generally I would treat this area like rust on your car and remove as much as you can around the infected area. Ive never heard of the paint remover either, and I tend to treat overspray with a bath cleaner cream applied with a cotton bud as its ever so slightly abrasive even less than toothpaste, so should give a nice smooth finish that I understand you need for Alclad and Nat Met finishes in general.
Hope it helps. regards Gary
I’d give it a light sanding with 1200 grit and either look at it under magnification or just prime again and look for defects.
Took a red sanding stick to it and most came clean, then buffed with a gray one and the area is super clean no pits etc. Looks like it has same sheen as original so I think Im good. Thanks all. Lesson learned.
