I figured I shall now start to take those pretty, slightly weathered models, AND FRICKIN DESTROY EM !!!
I took an Academy M60A1 with a mine crawler attatchment, and decided to show what happened if it missed one. So far it has a base coat of Metallic Grey, and the blast area has a brownish/black and rust colors sprayed, and the chipping is using kosher and table salt, and some maskol on the barrel. More pics to come.

Your off to a good start with this one Mike. The rust and salt for chipping seems very familiar, and it looks like your having fun with it. BUT…
Please don’t take this the wrong way, just my opinion. The rusted area looks good but should be located towards the rear of the tank. I am not too familiar with modern stuff, but the fuel in the tank is located some where in the rear of the tank. I only mention this because I don’t think a mine blast would cause the front ( blast area) to rust, only where the paint has been chipped off. This type of rusting would be caused by the heat of a fire.
The blast would leave lots of schrapnel marks in the form of nicks, scratches and gouges in the metal. This mainly on the outrigger and bow of the tank.
Again this is just my observation and I could be wrong of course. Otherwise I love what your doing with this model and the Tauchpanzer. keep up the good work rusthead [;)]

coming from someone that I have almost literraly adopted as a “mentor”(I’ve seen your work and have alot to learn from you) I take it as a learning experience. I really was’nt even thinking about the fuel tanks, the damage was supposed to be more from “missing” a land mine. But now that I take a step back, I too agree the top may be too much. It’s definately something I am going to have to re-assess. As always, thanks. I should have more pics tonight or tomorrow.
From someone who spent 8 years working with land mines, I can tell you that your model shows an incredible amount of damage. I’ve detonated a good number of anti tank mines under tanks and have never done that much damage. To do that much damage, that tank would have to hit about 150-300 lbs of explosives ( akin to 5 155 MM HE rounds strung together). Or maybe a really large improvised incendiary device, like a Fugas charge.
Just something to think about.

Anyway, I’ll finish this one and tone it down on the next one. Here’s where she stands. It got metallic grey, salt, flat brown, salt, and then the topcoat of buff. I’ll start the washes tomorrow.
Holy cow, what kind of mine did this thing hit! Hehe…yeah, maybe a bit over the top, but the effect looks good!
So, I’ll tally this one up as a LITTLE over the top, I did a few washes and added the tracks. Lesson learned…onward ho !!!
