As promised, here is my completed Dragon 1/45 Knights of the Skies series, Fokker Dr1. It’s straight out of the box, except for some stretched sprue control cables.
This is the first plane I’ve done in a while, and I’m just beginning to get back on the groove!!
The biggest problem with this kit, was the decal sizes being too large on the top crosses, they hung over and curled up when they dried.
By the way, any one know what all that writing says??? (I sure don’t)
Please feel free to leave any comments (or complaints[:0])!!
‘Kennscht mi noch’ has been translated a couple different ways. It’s an older dialect of German and has been loosely translated as ‘Remember me?’. Others have translated it as ‘Do you know me now?’ or ‘Do you know me yet?’. I personally go for the first translation. ‘Kempf’ was the pilot’s name. (Fritz Kempf)
Here’s some shots of the real aircraft, albeit with markings variations. It could be that these are two different aircraft, but I’m not totally sure.
Nice job man - and good to see more WWI early birds. If I do another one soon - I think I’ll pick a German Bird - They seem to have less rigging than the Sopwith rats nest that’s sitting on my workbench.
Until I rented the movie this week - I didn’t recognize Napoleon in your sig. I think that one is destined for cult filmdom.
Actually the seam work isn’t that bad. Remember the fuselage was covered with a piece of fabric and the should be a sewed seam down the centerline on the bottom ( tho not as heavy). and there would be a seam along the leading edge and trailing edge of the lower wing (they were meant to pop off for replacement or transportaton).
If you ran a small “x” pattern along the bottom fuselage seam (in 1/45th scale it would all of 1/32" on each side of the seam) you could replicate the sewing.
