As of September 18 2006,Hypodermic needles Are for over the counter sales here in “Taxachusetts”. I hope for all you modellers country wide that causes a “Domino effect” to take place.I Opted for 1/2 cc& 1cc.for starters. Finally I will have total control with my C.A. & Tenax adhesives.Just thoght I’d pass it on to other Mass modellers,& those in the adjoining states. Semper fi, rudedog
Rudedog, we were the 47th state to allow over the counter sales of hypodermic needles. The dominoes have fallen, been picked up and placed in storage! [:D] All because our puritanical leaders were convinced that being able to buy needles would cause people to start using drugs.
PS, you have to make the trip across the river some first Wednesday to come to a club meeting.
hey man[:D]-- i live next to you in connecticut-- the ‘taxyoutodeath’ state[(-D]–how do you obtain a hypo-- and how much might they cost?-- bet i could make some super nice weld seams with one!!!— treadwell
You walk into a pharmacy and either take them to the counter or ask for them at the counter. There was some talk of offering you counseling, in our case it would have to be not to confuse the Tenax with the heroin. [:D] I don’t know what retail will be, I ahve a prescription for mine. I guess in my case, the counseling would be not to confuse the insulin withthe superglue! [V]
so first i am thinking about how often i have dropped an exacto with a #11 blade on it – several times into my lap-- near misses(no do it yourself vasectomy !!) – everything intact–lol— twice onto my foot – 2 directs hits – both times, bare feet–yeah, sometimes i build in just a pair or shorts ( i lived)- i have to seriously reconsider my safety habits!!-- on the serious side,do I ask to see different size needles or can you tell me what i should look/ask for?-- this is kind of a wierd subject matter but i think it could really be a helpful tool!!-- thanks — treadwell–ooooo-- tenax-- what a rush
I live in Florida and I pay $15.00 for a hundred. That is for the pharmacy brand. Name brands like B&D will cost about twice as much. I will tell you one thing though I can’t see the thick CA going through those needles.
We actually get them for free over here as the NHS belive it’s better for people to use clean needles instead of having to run the risk of infection.I get mine off my aunt who is a pharmasist so I can get all different sizes to experiment with, they really do come in usful.
I cant belive we actually get something cheaper than you guy’s in the States[:D]
Well the CC is going to be the volume of tenax or whatever glue you want to use. 1/2 CC is FINE for what we do. You don’t use that much glue and you’ll be amazed at how much you save.
What matters is the gauge or needle size. Like shotguns, bigger number = thinner needle. 31 gauge are standard for insulin therapy. Little too small, very thin will get through. 28 gauge is better. Anything bigger usually isn’t routinely for sale. These are still VERY small needes. Length, standard 5/16th inch length needle is best, short and good control. And when you stick yourself replacing the plastic cover like you’re not supposed to, it won’t hurt bad.
Beyond that, please invest in a Sharps container for about $3.00 from the pharmacy for a small one. Or use a gatorade bottle. Something beyond just throwing them out. And when done, it can be useful to save the steel needle, they can come in handy. Use SAFETY glasses for this one, and pliers and Xuron metal cutters. Keep in small plastic container. Then just chuck the body.
To improve usefulness per needle, they will clog easily and quickly. Use Tenax, rinse with acetone. Superglue, use the ultra thin stuff that otherwise makes a complete mess and wash with acetone. Washing meaning drawing it into the body and flushing the needle several times. This way a 10 needle party bag as we call them lasts months.
Hi Pharm. At the request of the pharmacy,I did purchchase 1.It Sure wasn’t 3$ though. The 1 I got has a container within to snip off the needles. It’s 1-way.so they won’t come bach out if you drop it or such. They also send you back another & they pay postage both ways.I’m glad you mentioned the 2 proper cleaners.I was kinda wondering.Again, thanks to you all. rudedog
If you go to the farm supply store you can get big bore horse needles that make great machine guns, pitot tubes, etc. The medical needles are really too small even for glue.
Andrew
Wow, rudedog, they got you the deluxe model. Usually sharps are simply one way tupperware. But they take them back and that’s good. Since you’re not using them for injection, its not as important to have a Sharps. But it helps.
