Onging WIP--My Figures, 8/22 Update- DML Panther got a new BOSS

OK, the DML guys are close enough to done that I needed something to do while I was waiting for stuff to dry.

I broke out a resin guy, standing with a clipboard, washed him, assembled his torso, legs, and boots, I left off his head and arms at least for initial painting, and primed him and started his head using Bodge’s generous toot, and a hair dryer, man does that speed things up!

Here’s a hornet head I will put on a DML tanker body:

And here’s the resin dude’s head so far. I have basecoated him, added red/brown shadows, gone back with base to minimize the starkness with the shadows, and then lightened the base and highlighted his upper cheeks, brow area, tip of nose, tops of ears, etc. I cincentrated on trying to feathering this effect of highlight I also tried some dark grey/black on his upper eyelid and a pupil, I think it looks pretty good so far.

I have compared these guys to my first 2 figs, the faces are much more lifelike, and I haven’t even done the hair, etc.

Learning experience here, as the title says, my 3d and 4th figures, so any feedbackm is appreciated.

I made some progress tonight. First things first, here’s a picture of the dude I am working on from the box:

If anyone has any color call outs, I would be, as always, grateful

Here’s the torso, i left the arms off, at least for now, one of his hands is on his hip and I felt like it would be easier to paint the hand off, then attach it. There appear to be very tight seams on this guy.

Here’s the head with the progress tonight, specifically more highlights, 5 oclock shadow, courtesy of Bodge’s toot, hair, and heargear. I actually started with a flesh wash to tone down the very dark shadows on the cheek creases, I like the look after.

A before picture

ANd the after shots, sorry about the strange angles, I mounted him on a giant Chinese food toothpick I found in my dinner last night, and the length screws up the juggling act I know as using macro setting.

Here is a comparison shot: my second figure, Boxer Hans, and the new guy on the block, Resin Rolf

I also worked on that Hornet tanker head, here’s the start of the night

And a comparison with Disco Franz

And the after, again, I used a flesh wash to tone down the shadow which I felt was too stark, highlghted and feathered to the best of my ham handed ability, gave him his teeth using off white and flesh to tone it down, eyebrows, hair, and a base coat on the cap. Away we go with pictures

Lastly, a secret message to Schnobs:

MUCH better, one thing, i think your flesh might be a tid bit light

Your work is progressing quite nicly, keep it up.

Thanks, figurefreak and Captfue!

I am planning on switching myskin formulation with the next figure. AS for this guy, I included a shot of the box art, what are my options as far as uniform colors. Initially, I assumed he was wearing black leather coveralls, then when I got the box, thought it was dark grey leather, but just now, it appears to me he is wearing a gray green matching jacket and trousers.

He is also wearing a collared shirt and necktie, but I can’t even see the items on the box art.

Thanks,

Bill

I only had a couple minutes tonight, but I got 2 coats of uniform basecoat-German field grey for the upper and German uniform green for the pantaloons.

Plugging along.

Bill

I think I made some progress tonight. I started with the base trouser color, vallejo German uniform green. I put a good amount, maybe 3 drops, into both end bins of a plastic palette dish, then, in the “highlight” side, I added light grey to the next bin, then yellow, and in the shadow bin I put dark German grey.

I started with highlights, the theory being that it is easier to tell where to shadow if we highlight first.

Starting with a 000 brushful of light grey, i put that in the main highlight bin and mixed it up. Use an old rough brush for this, not your sable. ALWAYS dab the brush on the side of the bin, then I run it in a twirling motion over a dry paper towel, then go for the figure with it. THe first highlight I did fairly liberally over obvious creases and high points, hit it with a hairdryer, then i went back and added more light grey, a bit of water, and hit the same areas, but I consciously covered less of the highlight areas, the hairdryer, then I added a bit of yellow and hit only the ridge of his collar, areas like that.

The shadows were exactly the same, except I put less and less and darker and darker paint in the creases and folds. For the last step, I switched to a 7-O brush, and I took a brush of the darkened base coat, and put that on the dark grey that I was formerly putting in the field grey.

Then I did the same for the tunic, after I put his arms on.

Here are the pictures.

First, compare and contrast with Boxer Hans, my second figure ever, he turned out ok, but the feathering was poor.

PLEASE let me know what you think, but I will tell you right now I am very ahppy with how he is turning out.

Bill

Hey Bill!

That’s what I am talking about!!![tup][tup]

Looks great Bill! Great color choices and I can’t wait to see more.

Natural light shots

This guy is done, I believe.

Outside lighting, Herr Whoever in Paradise?

That’s figure number 3.

Much progress via telephonic tutelage from Schnobs.

He’s washed with oils, 2 times overall, 3 times below the beltline, I added his sidearm just as I was sweeping off the benchtop, I located it. I added a bit of Mig Europe dust to his boots and extreme lower trousers. Should I seal him up?

Thanks for looking

Bill

I think you might of crossed the finish line on this one Bill! Congrats!! I would sugest doing one final check for chips and errors and then add a little MIG pigments to the boots and lower pant legs and then shoot a coat of flat. JMHO of course as always!

Back to watch making! [%-)]

Nice one Bill,

I really like what you’ve done with this guy - the facial expression is less “stern” than the one on the box pic. The shading in the folds looks just about right too. [tup]

I had been eyeing this fig on LuckyModel’s site and umm-ing and ahh-ing about picking it up, but it was hard to tell from the boxtop pics. I might just go for one of these now. [swg]

Edited for content.

ignore the troll… you are doing a mighty fine job

Ditto Squared! [;)]

Great job on the resin- handled it even better than the plastic IMO- you’re moving past me- and these guys will really enhance your armor [tup]

that is BEAUTIFUL for a third figure, very nicely done

Wow! Great work! [tup] If only i can do that well on only my third fig… [sigh] Anywho, looks great, love the flesh tone and shading.

Lookin’ real nice, Bill. Good work.
