One of those "modeling happiness" moments

Ever have one of those “modeling happiness” moments? You’re happily modeling along, and you’re trying some new stuff, and it comes out good, and you just really get that sense of satisfaction that you’ve just grown your skills- and had a ton of fun doing it?

I just had that… man this was fun!

I’m working on a 21st Century Toys F4U-1A Corsair. I’ve never done a Navy tri-color scheme, and I’ve not done free hand camo. And I’ve never really been real happy with my efforts to pre-shade and make a paint job look patchy.

But I figured this would be a good time to try it all. So at sat down today at the bench, and started with the intermediate blue. After laying it down, I kept doing lighter and lighter splotches. Then I did the darker blue, and repeated the process. I didn’t even wait for the paint to fully dry.

Now I’m not holding this up as exemplary of how to do it, or even great work. What I am excited about is getting done with it, and being pleased with it- and knowing “A-ha! I figured it out, and I can do it!”

The intermediate blue doesn’t show up as well, but it’s splotchy too.

Man- now I wanna do me some more of these tri-color schemes from the South Pacific! [:D]

Jon-

Are you SURE you’ve never done that before? Looks to me like you have. [;)]

Seriously, it looks great!

Thanks man! I really appreciate it.

This is my first time- man I’m stoked. I almost wanna strip it off and do it again- it was so much fun to do it.

[:O] OMG! The man is sick! Somebody call somebody…

I have painted, repainted, stripped, and almost gotten my FAA Corsair ready for the third try, and you knock off a SUPERB paintjob first time out and you want to redo yours? [V] Just kidding, way to go my friend! [tup]

[;)]

Very well done, Jon, especially the pre-shading. After decalks and post weathering, she’ll look like she flew right from a mid-1940-s carrier deck right onto your display case.

In the spirit of Robert Heinlein,

Modelling Corollary No. 1:

Just because something is done quickly doesn’t mean it isn’t done right.

Modelling Corollary No. 2:

Just because something took a long time to do doesn’t mean it is done right.

Looks good, Jon, therefore it is Done Right!

Looks like a good start Jon. Final weathering & detailing will tell the tale, but you’re well on the way to a very nice build.

Regards, Rick

Not too bad, Jon. It’ll be interesting to see the final result.

Rick, congratulations on your 12,000th post! Cripes! [bow]

Jon,

I know the feeling [:)] ! This craft looks really good. Keep us posted with progress on this one.

Greg

Looks good, even for a non-Aggie.[:D]

WOW Jon… looks great. And if you strip that anbd do it again I may have to come down there and give you one of those, “What the heck are you thinking!” wacks on the head like in the V8 juice commercials[;)]

Thanks guys! I appreciate all the kind words!

Very well done, Jon! That is a paint job to be proud of, and as you perfect your technique on future jobs, we will all be begging you for your expertise. I have had less than no luck with tri-color schemes like that. BRAVO!!! [bow]

No.

Well, sometimes.

Every 33rd of August if the moon is full and my teeth and nails don’t hurt. [XX]

I once dreamed of such “modeling happiness”. Fate dictated otherwise and cursed me to this wretched existance that stands me betwixt the Gulf of Revell and the Isles of Testor. Mine own oars have decayed and my head doth hang low. I am strong. I will re-build what once was, and it shall be more mighty. Like Mighty Mouse[:-,]. [:)]

"uhhh…what were we talkin’ 'bout?" Ozzy Osbourne

LOL

and I just experienced this feeling … ohh well… almost.

I am working on a P-47M (Tamiya 1/48) - I know, its far from the Spit but… in fact is a beatiful aircraft. I really like p-47 a lot. Maybe not so much as Spits but … close [:D]

So, back to my story. I worked on a cockpit. got my research done, feeling warm and fuzzy … started to work on one wall. Practicaly finished it and I was really praud of myself - you know the feeling right ? [;)]. At one moment I decided to get Eduard PE (for Hasegawa kit) and … I see that it is a totally different setup in the cockpit. So, I realized that Tamiya has two sets of cockpit and … I am not sure anymore that I made a right one. What a feeling … going back to the research .,

So I was almost there … at least for a moment [:)]

Greg

Kudos to you for trying something new, Jon, and for doing it so well! Took me forever it seems to show that much progress so quickly. Nicely done, my friend! [tup]

It’s even better than the “Master’s Moment” on the golf course. You know, that one shot when, for just a moment, you’re Tiger Woods!

That’s a mighty nice paint job on that Corsair my man! Love the effect.

Great job, can’t wait to see it completed!!

Nice paint job on the Corsair!I was wondering if the engine is seperate on that kit.And if so how detailed is it?

Funny you should ask! [;)]

Check out this previous build update… scroll down a bit on page 2.

It’s a fairly simple engine, but with a little work, it looks good. Someone who enjoys scratch building could probably get a great look from it.
