I feel very lucky I can’t remember a time while modeling that I’ve had a huge disaster. Now there was the time I was getting ready to paint my 1:1 scale jeep and I was shaking a gallon can of OD paint, while talking to someone, and the lid came loose. Neadless to say the jeep didn’t get painted that night, but I did.[:0]
The worst thing that happened to me was when I accidentally spilled a few drops of superglue on my benchtop. A few moments later, I just happened to rest my airbrush on that spot and…you can guess the rest. Took about 30 minutes to detach it from the table. Oh, did I mention that the brush was pressurized when I tried to pick it up? My spray booth has a distinctive silhouette of my forearm outlined in bright red on the left side.
Spilled paint is bad enough on models (i can usually salvage them) and on the floor or rug (the longest my wife stayed pi-ah unhappy was a week). But to me the biggest tragedies I’ve suffered is when I have the parts sprue or a partially completed model on the work bench and then knock over a full bottle of liquid glue - usually don’t salvage too much out of that even for spare parts. Bah [:(][banghead][:(][banghead][:(][banghead]
Somehow when cleaning my airbrush, I managed to spill several (large) drops of Model Master Chrome Yellow on the (new) vinyl kitchen floor. My life flashed before my eyes, but I managed to get it all cleaned up (without a trace!) before the wife came home. She still doesn’t know about it.[:D]
I would almost be willing to bet she does, she’s just waiting for you to fess up to it. Women have a sixth sence ya see and no matter how hard we try to keep them from knowing about things like this, they do, they know everything, just ask her.[:-,][:-,][:-,][(-D][(-D]
Bloody hell - all these stories bring up memories - bad ones!
One of my worst ones was having a large-ish amount of polyurethane resin to mix, and fixing up a mixing paddle on a small electric motor - does anyone wanna guess how all this ended?
Resin really doesn’t come out of ANYTHING.
Cheers

Lee Tree;
Must be an Aussie thing only mine was large-ish amount of fluorescent red. Guess who ended up painting the walls in his modelling room instead of modelling for two weeks.
I superglued my jeans to my leg once. Didn’t lose too much skin,… that time!
The worst thing that has happened is when I spilled a bottle of light gray primer on dark brown carpeting. Since I was renting, I had to remove it, but had no luck. So about a week before I moved, I decided to mix some brown paint to match the carpet and airbrushed the spot. Couldn’t even tell!
Hey Mojo, I wish I had heard that before transferring from my last rectory. I spray painted my hand bright red in the morning, the other hand splashed blue that afternoon and had dinner with the Bishop that evening. Needless to say, he noticed and i thought to come up with something clever but told the real story and that’s when I found out that the Bishop was a model builder as well.[:D][wow] Will wonders never cease![^][:D]
Matching the color of your skin might be a bit more difficult than carpet! It’s a good thing that you decided to tell the truth, he would have seen right through it. ![]()
Pax Probiscum!
Matt
I think Ive spilt enough paint to cover the 350 Enterprise with tiedie colors[banghead]
I once had a MM bottle of black thinned down for washes that exploded all over me. I was trying to knowck the lid loose. It was stuck
And I dont know how many times Ive held the a/b with my mouth while doing something with the paint. I just happen to bite down too hard and tyhe paint was catapulted not only on my shirt and paints but on my model, and in my face, and who knows where else…[xx(][banghead][%-)][D)]
You know guys…
All those ruined clothes wouldn’t be a problem if you just painted naked.
[#oops]I’ve…said to much.[:-^]
Ok Iroc, put them clothes back on. . .
Just happened …
I was stirring some stain for a project and managed to knock over the can; went all over the bench and through the cracks between the planks on the top, right onto my Taig modeling lathe.
Took me many hours to disassemble, clean, reassemble, and recalibrate.

My husband was building a M16 Motor Gun Carriage when my 3 year old decided that daddy’s “truck” didn’t look pretty enough being green. She then got a bottle of blood red paint and painted almost the whole thing. I was mighty pretty. Needless to say that she was punished and he learned to keep the paints where she can’t reach them.
Demankat
I was once transporting a semi completed M163 up the stairs in the middle of the night. The tray had the model, its sprues, paint and a number of other stuff on it… Thats when I tripped. I just fell forward, but the model proved that the heavier bits are always the ones that are the most delicate. Needless to say production was delayed on that one. Besides the shocking paint choice it ended up not too bad…
And then there was the humbrol flat black enamel… I managed to get almost all of it out of the bedroom carpet…
lolololol Iroc you reminded me of a bad joke about nuns painting naked and a blind man…
