One He111 of a good kit

So they say ignorance is bliss. I scored a deal on eBay for a Monogram He-111 1/48 under $26 with shipping. I had done no research, wasn’t really in the market for this kit, never built one before hadn’t even read a review or seen gallery pics of other modelers. I expected to get what I paid for: Minimal detail, poor fit, raised lines, etc. etc. I figured this would just be one of those “Someday” kits. When I got it 2 days later, (props to a great seller!) The outer box reflected these prejudices but what was inside blew my mind. Molding quality worthy of Tamiyagawaminiatures! Excellent cockpit, crisp details, recessed lines. It would appear Monogram was hiding Tamiya-quality kits in rundown boxes. Makes me wonder, what other diamonds are out there.

I bought that kit when it first came out in the early '90’s and agree that it is a gem of a kit, along w/ most all of the other ProModeler releases, such as the Me 110 and 410…And although the 110 has been shown to have issues and better kits have replaced it, the 111 and 410 are still the best game in town in their scale…

…yes…

I just scored a Promodeller 410 for $26.00. Not to shabby I thought

I picked the same kit up on The Bay a while back and it looks awesome. Makes me wonder why many still make the following comments (from another thread) ;

“Built a lot of Monogram 1/48th stuff. Fun kits and all, but I would likely not feel the urge to take them more than as goofing off kits myself.”

Well, to be honest—the ProModeler kits were, IMO, a few notches above the average Monogram offerings…

Perhaps, but that’s why the perception of making a silk purse from a sow’s ear is such fun.

That is why we are in the Monogram Mafia group build. Some people just don’t know what they are missing.

Agreed… [dto:] I have a few of the ProModeler kits and they are great. I have the 110 on the shelf with the Cutting Edge correction set for the engines. One of these days I will get to it. I just scored a number of older Revell and Monogram kits from a very nice man for pennies. Many still in original shrink wrap. He wanted to make sure they went to a nice home. They sure did. A few years back I was a Tamigawa snob, but am back into the Revellograms…
